Montgomery Baseball & Softball League ("MBSL") is proud to have hosted the Covino tournament for 27 years, each year drawing upwards of 50 teams across NJ and PA starting at 8U and up to 15/16U. Town travel and club teams have valued our unique format, scheduling flexibility, inclusive approach, the quality of our fields as well as our renowned snack stand! The tournament lasts approximately 4-5 weeks-sometimes longer, based on weather, scheduling conflicts, and field availability-and in the current format requires a massive effort and commitment from Montgomery Community and the MBSL Board. At the same time we have received feedback in recent years from some participants and stakeholders indicating that a different structure could be more attractive.
The MBSL Board and baseball community have a great deal of respect for the long-standing tradition of the Covino tournament and with limited resources and community support we do not want to open the tournament without confidence that we can provide the high quality experience it’s known for. Our Board believes that with proper planning there are viable options for restructuring the Covino Tournament to provide an even better experience for all constituents – possibly including multiple, shorter-duration tournaments for specific age groups; level-specific tournaments; and/or pitching machine tournaments for younger kids.
This was not an easy decision, nor one the MBSL Board has taken lightly. We deeply appreciate the support of the many travel managers, players and parents who have made, and continue to make, our tournament a hallmark of their summer baseball calendar as well as the entire Montgomery Community and the many volunteers who have supported the tournament for almost 3 decades. We hope you will continue to do so going forward and that we can welcome you and your teams/players back to our fields next year for a renewed tournament experience.
