10U / 12U Indoor Tournament Rules

Any rules or exceptions not specifically mentioned herein shall follow USSSA  fastpitch rules.

Game Time:

Pool play games will be 70 minutes. Bracket games will be 90 minutes.

  • (Complete the current inning)

Championship Game will be 6 innings – no time limit.

*** Warning: The umpire has the right to pause the clock if he feels there is a deliberate attempt to manipulate the game clock. i.e. constant equipment malfunctions, excessive “lost” helmets, bats, gloves, extended mound visits, etc. – in short, just play the game. ****

 Game Play

  • Fielder / Batting / Pitching
    • Field six (6) defensive players with free defensive substitution.
    • Courtesy runners for pitchers and catchers. Same courtesy runner cannot run twice in the same inning. (you are encouraged to use a courtesy runner for catchers when there are 2 outs to keep the game moving)
    • Must bat at least nine players if team has nine or more players.
    • Team can bat a straight line-up if they wish with no penalty for injured players. Injured player will simply be skipped in the line-up. Injured player may not return for the remainder of the game if they leave the line-up.
    • Pitchers will have 2 warm-up pitches between innings and 7 warm-up pitches if they are brought in during an inning.
    • If a pitcher is removed during an inning, she may not return to the circle during the same half inning.
  • Stealing
    • Runner may leave once the pitch reaches the plate.
    • Runner can steal home
    • 10U ONLY – One stolen base per pitch.
  • Batter may advance on a dropped 3rd strike.
  • Sliding is not mandatory, but runners must make a reasonable attempt to avoid contact with fielders. Runners will be called out if umpire rules runners did not make a reasonable attempt to avoid contact.
  • Any ball caught off the ceiling will be ruled an out.
  • Any ball that gets stuck in the netting in fair territory will be ruled a single. All runners advance one base.
  • Any ball the goes beyond the rear netting into the spectator area will be ruled a ground rule double.
  • Any ball that hits above the black line on the rear netting without touching the ceiling or side netting will be ruled a home run.
  • Fair / Foul Balls
    • Any ball that hits the walls or ceiling in foul territory first then rolls fair is a foul ball
    • Any ball that hits a ceiling beam in front of the bases and rolls foul before a fielder touches the ball is a foul ball. If a fielder fields the ball while in fair territory, the ball is ruled fair.
    • Any ball that hits a beam above or beyond the bases is a fair ball regardless where it is first touched by a fielder.

NUMBER OF PLAYERS: EIGHT is the maximum number of players on a team; five field players plus a goalkeepers. Substitutes may occur at any time as long as the player exiting the field runs directly to their bench area and does not involve themselves in the play as they are exiting the field. A penalty will result in a free kick.

EQUIPMENT: All players must wear shin guards. Any player without shin guards will not be allowed to play. Teams are responsible for providing game balls. Preferred Ball Sizeis a #3.

GOAL BOX: The goal box, eight feet wide by ten feet long, is directly in front of the goal. The goalie may use their hands only inside the box. They can take two steps outside the box once they have control of the ball to either throw of kick the ball.

GAME DURATION: The game shall consist of two 20 minute halves separated by a two minute halftime period OR the first team to reach 15 goals, whichever comes first. Games tied after regulation play shall end in a tie. Except Playoffs, this will be a 3 minute golden goal period followed by a shootout.

GOAL SCORING: A goal may be scored from a touch on the offensive half on the playing field.

PLAYOFF OVERTIME: TEAMS WILL HAVE A 3 MINUTE “GOLDEN GOAL” OVERTIME PERIOD. If the score is still tied, the winner shall be decided by shootout with the 3 players on the field at end of golden goal period.

NO OFFSIDES AND NO SLIDE TACKLING.

FIVE YARD RULE: In all dead ball situations, defending players must stand at least five yards away from the ball. If the defensive player's goal area is closer than five yards, the ball shall be placed five yards from the goal area in line with the place of the penalty.

INDIRECT KICKS: All dead ball kicks (kick-ins, free kicks, kick-offs) are indirect.

Corner Kicks: Will taken with the ball place on the hash mark on the end lines.

GOAL KICKS: May be taken from any point on the end line, and not in the goal box area.

KICK OFF: May be taken in any direction.

SPORTSMANSHIP: Players, coaches and spectators are expected to act in the nature of good sportsmanship at all times. Abuse of the referees will not be tolerated. Any instance of such conduct will disqualify the responsible team from the event.

Any part of the ball or player's body on the line is considered in the goal box; the player is an extension of the box. If a defender touches the ball in the goal box, a penalty kick is awarded to the offensive team. If an offensive player touches the ball within the goal box, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team. If the ball comes to a complete stop in the goal box, regardless of which team touched it last, a goal kick is awarded to the defensive team. The goals are approximately 4 feet high by 6 feet wide.
