Crusaders Fall in Regionals
February 16, 2006
Fall to American Heritage 51-40
The Crusaders came up short on Thursday night in their first round regional game. The game went back and forth through the first 3 quarters. CSCA was down down 3 at the half 17-14, but outplayed the Stallions in the 3rd quarter to go up by 2 points, 32-30 to start the fourth. The Crusaders went cold in the 4th quarter and could not hit free throws that would've kept them in the game. The Stallions were able to convert their free throws throughout the night, making the difference in the game.
Dan Bozza led the way for the Crusaders both in points and rebounds.
The Crusaders came up short on Thursday night in their first round regional game. The game went back and forth through the first 3 quarters. The Crusaders will play in a Regional matchup for the first time ever Thursday night. The Crusaders who won Districts on Saturday night against arch-rival Highlands Christian take the next step tonight with a first round Regional game against American Heritage (Delray). The Crusaders are hosting this opening round game, so come out to CSCA gym and show them THIS IS OUR HOUSE!!!

Crusaders Win Districts !!! - Boys Basketball Team Wins First Ever District Title!

Defeat Arch-Rival Highlands Christian 58-53 to Win Crown
Head Coach Steve Fitzgerald�s team is going to Regionals!
The CSCA Crusader Boys Basketball Team defeated their arch rivals, the Highlands Christian Knights to win the District 14-2A Championship Saturday night to advance to the Region IV quarterfinals where they will play American Heritage Delray.
The Championship is the first boys team title for CSCA in 6 years and the first ever for Boys Basketball. The Crusaders now find themselves in the driver�s seat for Regional play � just 3 wins away from another first � a CSCA team qualifying for the State Tournament!
CSCA had several heroes, including Ryan Butler who passed and shot his team onto the win, plus Cameron Smith who not only scored himself, but also harassed Highlands leading scorer into one of his worst shooting efforts of the year.
Also standing out for the Crusaders were sophomores Dan Van Bronkhorst (tough defense), Brett Hagler (key free throws down the stretch) and Dan Bozza (leading rebounder again!) who all contributed to the win. Adam Keene also saw action as did John Alfano and Tyson von Scherrer.
The Crusaders will host a Region IV Quarterfinal game this Thursday night at 7:00 PM against American Heritage Delray. Come out and cheer for the Boys hoop Team as they continue their drive to the FHSAA State Basketball Tournament!

Defeat Hollywood Christian 56-44 to Earn First Ever Championship Game Appearance!
The Crusaders held on to defeat Hollywood Christian Tuesday night in their 1st Round district matchup. With the win the Crusaders advance to the District Championship game for the first time in the school's history. CSCA will face Highlands Christian for the 4th time this year on Saturday night at 7:00PM with the District Championship on the line. The game will be played at Hollywood Christian, the host of this years tournament. With the win the Crusaders also earn a trip to Regionals for the first time ever. The Crusaders were led by Brett Hagler who scored 19 points. Cameron Smith added to the effort with 16 points, and Ryan Butler chipped in with 11 points, including 3 3-pointers.

CSCA Overcomes 7 Point Deficit in 4th Quarter
The Crusaders came from seven points down in the 4th quarter to defeat the Spartans from Miami Country Day, 53-51. The Spartans were effective in slowing down the game, and were helped by a ragged performance by the Crusaders. The Crusaders were led by Ryan Butler's 17 points, 3 steals and 4 assists. Another highlight was Butler breaking two single sesaon records in the same game. His first 3 point field goal gave him 57 for the year eclipsing the old record of 56 held by Mike Longo and Butler's 2nd assist gave him 92 for the season, eclipsing the old record of 91 held by David Fantell.
Cameron Smith also had a strong performance, while under the weather, pouring in 12 points, while grabbing 9 rebounds and adding 3 assists and 3 steals. Dan Bozza continued his oustanding play by contributing 12 points and 7 rebounds and Brett Hagler had a solid performance with 10 points, 5 steals, and 5 assists.

Andy has been busy at College and is playing Intramural basketball to pass away the frigid months of winter up in the frozen tundra of the northeast. Grandview Hands Crusaders Another Tough Loss

The Crusaders played the Pride from Grandview Prep tough for most of the game, even leading at halftime, before falling, 55-39. The Pride, 17-1, are one of the best teams in the area and feature a tall and athletic lineup. The Crusaders executed their gameplan very well in the fist half, slowing the game down, to lead 21-19 at the break. Grandview started the 3rd quarter on a 14-1 run with some hot shooting. The Crusaders battled back behind two 3 pointers from Ryan Butler to close the quarter only down by 5 points, 35-30. The Crusaders had chances in the 4th quarter to cut into the lead but missed 4 free throws. The Crusaders were led by Ryan Butler's 18 points, including five 3-point field goals, and 7 rebounds. Dan Bozza and Cameron Smith followed with 8 points each while Brett Hagler finished with 5 points.

The Crusaders went to Hollywood Christian and came out with a hard fought victory, 69-49. The victory clinches 2nd place in the district which will begin February 7th at Hollywood Christian. Cameron Smith and Brett Hagler led the Crusaders with 13 points each. Smith also had 8 rebounds and 5 assists while Hagler chipped in 5 rebounds. The Crusaders got off to a hot start as they jumped on the Lions 7-0, and then 13-5, before Chris Hall, the leading scorer in Broward County, hit three 3 point field goals to close the quarter. C.S.C.A. had trouble scoring in the 2nd and 3rd quarter and fell behind, 40-29. In the 4th quarter, however the Crusaders stormed back scoring 33 points in the quarter, only to eventually fall to the Lions, 65-62. The Crusaders were again led by Cameron Smith's 19 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Ryan Butler and Dan Bozza both had 13 points. Butler also had 5 assists and 5 steals. The Crusaders were a little sloppy in their win over the Lions Monday night, 69-43. The Crusaders were led by Cameron Smith with 18 points and Dan Bozza with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. Ryan Butler had a strong game as well with 11 points and 5 assists. Tyson von Scherrer continued his outstandig play with 5 points 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals.

The Crusaders soundly defeated Hollywood Christian Friday before a packed homecoming crowd, 74-42. The Crusaders had a great team effort which saw all but one player score. The Crusaders also, overcame a great individual performance by the Eagles' John Lawrence, who finished with 32 out of his teams 42 points. The Crusaders were led by Dan Bozza who had 19 points on 7 for 7 shooting from the field and 4 for 5 from the free throw line. he also had 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Cameron Smith and Ryan Butler also scred in double figures with 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Dominate Throughout, Win Easily 62-30
The Crusaders got back on the winning track Tuesday night with a convincing win over the Sharks of Sheridan Hills, 62-30. The Crusaders got 20 points and 3 steals from Brett Hagler. Dan Bozza also had a standout performance with 13 points and 7 rebounds, and Cameron Smith had a great all around game with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Kyle Ellis had a solid 4th quarter recording all 7 of the teams points.

After an emotionally draining overtime loss, the Crusaders played a tough 6A opponent, Western High School Saturday night. After a good 1st half, the Crusaders showed their fatigue in the 2nd half falling, 59-44. The Crusaders were led by Cameron Smith and Brett Hagler With 11 points each, followed by Ryan Butler with 8.

The Crusaders led the entire game versus Highlands Christian, only to fall in overtime on a shot in the closing seconds. C.S.C.A. had three shots to win in regulation, but came up short, forcing overtime. In overtime, the Crusaders missed four crucial free throws that would have sealed the win. With :39 seconds left the Crusaders were up by one point. The Knights moved the ball up the court and looked for an opportunity. With only :07 seconds left the Knight's Jon Rosado drove into the lane and put up a shot over a Crusader defender that found the bottom of the net to put Highlands up one, 53-52. The Crusaders, out of timeouts, inbounded quickly and got the ball up court to Ryan Butler whose 3 point attempt at the buzzer went in and out. The Crusaders were led by Butler's 14 points, including 4 3-point field goals, and 6 assists. Cameron Smith had 13 points and 6 rebounds, while John Alfano had 10 points and 3 steals. The Crusaders finally made a run in the 4th quarter cutting the lead to 12 points with 4 minutes to go but could get no closer. The bright spot for the Crusaders was the great defense played on Grandview Prep's outstanding, 6'5" shooting guard Greer Wright, holding him to just 8 points. The Crusaders were led by Cameron Smith and Dan Bozza with 11 points each.

2006 Ocean Coast Crusader Holiday Shootout
CSCA will once again host the 2006 Ocean Coast Crusader Holiday Shootout. Eight schools will each be represented by both their Boy's and Girl's basketball teams. The tournament kicks off on Thursday morning at 9:00AM, and runs through Saturday night. Come out and support the Crusaders as they compete in this year's tournament. American Heritage (Plantation) Wins 67-53 In Title Game
The Crusaders got down by 18 points early in the 2nd quarter only to fight back to close the deficit to 5 points by halftime. The Crusaders continued their strong play into the 3rd quarter. They were able cut the lead to one midway through the 3rd, but missed 2 free throws that would have given them the lead. After that the Crusaders could not get over the hump. American Heritage made 10-11 free throws to help them secure the championship of the Crusader Holiday Shootout, 67-53. For the Crusaders, Cameron Smith led the way with 19 points, followed by Brett Hagler with 10 points and 4 assists. Dan Bozza also had points and 7 rebounds, while Ryan Butler had 6 points and 7 assists. Cameron Smith and Ryan Butler were named to the all-tournament team.

For the second time this year the Crusaders defeated Lake Worth Christian this time in double overtime. C.S.C.A. overcame a scoreless second quarter to tie it in regulation on a dramatic three point shot from Ryan Butler. The Crusaders won in Overtime despite Cameron Smith and Dan Bozza fouling out in regulation. Ryan Butler and Brett Hagler led the way with 19 and 17 points respectively. Cameron Smith chipped in 12 points, while Kyle Ellis hit two clutch free throws in the second overtime. The Crusaders advance to the finals of the Ocean Coast Holiday Shootout, against a very good American Heritage (Plantation) team.

The Crusaders used hot shooting and relentless 2nd half defense to beat Miami Country Day in the 1st round of the Ocean Coast Holiday Shootout. The Crusaders hit ten 3 point field goals and held the Spartans to 7 points in the 2nd half. C.S.C.A. was led by Cameron Smith with 22 points and 5 assists followed by Ryan Butler with 17 points, including five 3 pointers, and 5 assists. Dan Bozza also had a strong performance with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Brett Hagler had a career high 8 assists while chipping in 7 points and his brother, 8th grader Josh Hagler, had his 1st two field goals as a varsity Crusader. The Crusaders also set a team record of 29 assists for the game. Junior guard John Alfano missed the game due to a fracture in his right hand. he will be reevaluated January 5.

Crusaders Fall 62-41
The Crusaders could not seem to match the energy and focus that the Knights of Highlands Christian brought on Friday night. The Knights defeated the Crusaders, 62-41. The Crusaders had a sluggish 1st half and trailed 31-15. The Crusaders, however, opened the 3rd quarter with an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 8 and had the ball, but could get no closer. The Crusaders were led by Cameron Smith with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Brett Hagler followed with 10 points, and Adam Keene had another strong effort with 7 points, 6 rebounds while taking three charges.

The Crusader Varsity Boys team takes on arch rival Highlands Christian Friday night at home. CSCA defeated the Knights earlier this year, winning the HCA Holiday tournament by beating the Knights in the Championship game on their floor. The Crusaders will look to make it 2 in a row Friday night at OUR HOUSE! Gametime is 8:00. Come out early and cheer on all the Crusader Hoops teams as they take on the Knights. First game of the day is JV Girls at 3:30, followed by JV Boys at 5:00, then Varsiy Girls at 6:30, and your Crusader Varsity Boys at 8:00. Wear Red to show your support of the Crusaders. There will be "Crusader Basketball - This Is Our House" RED T-shirts available for purchase at the door.

C.S.C.A. won a very hard fought game against a regional opponent, American Heritage (Delray)54-48. Cameron Smith had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Ryan Butler also had 17 points. and 3 assists to lead the Crusaders. Adam Keene also had his best performance as a varsity player, chipping in 7 points along with 11 rebounds and taking two key charges. The Crusaders were 19 for 23(87%) from the charity stripe to help ensure victory in a highly contested game. The Crusaders played without injured starter, sophomore Dan Van Bronkhorst, who sprained his knee in the victory against Parkway Academy. His status is listed as day-to-day.

The Crusaders found a way to win against Ft. Lauderdale Christian after a sub par performance. The Crusaders overcame a 31 point outburst by FLCS' Oscar Ashley and poor free throw shooting down the stretch to win a close game, 72-67. The Crusaders were again led by a career high 27 points from Cameron Smith, and 13 points and 7 assists from John Alfano.

Win 2005 HCA Holiday Tournament With Win Over Highlands in the Championship Game 59-48
The Crusader Boys Basketball Team used an explosive offense and suffocating defense to take an early lead and then hold on to defeat the Highlands Christian Knights by the score of 59 to 48 to take First Place in the 2005 HCA Holiday Tournament. The victory raises their season record to 3 – 1 as they get set to enter district play beginning this week.
Cameron Smith had a huge game to lead the Crusaders with 18 points with team-mate Dan Bozza tossing in 12 points including a key stretch during the second quarter. Dan Van Bronkhorst also played well, anchoring the middle and playing tough defense. Ryan Butler turned playmaker with 6 assists and 5 points and Tyson von Scherrer hit a huge 3 point shot to stop a Knight’s rally and quiet the crowd during the 4th quarter. The Crusaders placed two players on the Tournament All Star Team - John Alfano and Dan Van Bronkhorst.

Knock Off Lake Worth Christian in Thrilling Overtime Game
The Crusader Boys Basketball Team overcame a sluggish first quarter to catch and eventually overwhelm the Lake Worth Christian Defenders by the score of 75-67 in a thrilling overtime game last night to advance to the Championship game this Saturday night against arch rival Highlands Christian. With the win, CSCA improves their season record to 2 – 1.
Brett Hagler led the Crusaders with 18 points including some key baskets late in the game. John Alfano also played well with 16 points and several assists. Cameron Smith and Dan Bozza also played well with 10 and 9 points respectively along with Adam Keene who came up huge in the overtime period with several key rebounds, blocks, and baskets.
Head Coach Steve Fitzgerald was impressed with the team’s ability to stay focused and not give up during the early stages when they fell behind. The championship with Highlands now is the final hurdle standing in the way for CSCA to win its first ever HCA Tournament.
Game time this Saturday is 7:30 PM, Come on out and cheer for your CSCA Crusader Boys Basketball Team at Highlands!

The Coral Springs Christian Crusaders could not overcome 29 turnovers in route to losing to crosstown rival C.S. Charter 70-50. The lone bright spot was sophomore Brett Hagler who scored 21 points.
