Lisbon Junior Athletic League

Meeting Minutes

March 2, 2015

Attendance: Dennis, Naomi, Chris, Gary, Angel, Tony Allen Carol, Michelle, Dan, Ryan,

Absent: Tony Q, Marlene Q, Angie,

Guest: Darren Brown

Prior Minutes: Motion to accept, vote and accepted

Treasurer’s Report: Reviewed sign-ups to date. 87 sign-ups for baseball/softball, 88 sign-ups for Baseball clinics, and 47 signed up for softball clinics. Working out issues with the family cap for online registrations.

Tony, brought to the attention of the board of an individual family that is unable to register online, will bring cash to clinic and a registration will be completed for them.  Ryan to send out full report. Motion to accept, vote, and accepted.

Hardship cases: for clinics or play, don’t want to turn anyone away.   Will discuss each case as it presents.

Clinics: Majors has a lot less help. Ryan can help after the next 2 weeks when basketball is done.  A couple of registrations were taken at the door.

Softball: Plan is for 2 U8, 1 U10, 2 U12 an 1 U14 teams. Bigger numbers this year than expected.  Very little middle school aged participation. Will be looking at ways to increase interest in this range.  Considering a surcharge for anyone outside of Lisbon, as ASA rules are different and maybe able to include girls from outside of Lisbon.

State Travel Team:  Next Sunday is the meeting for the state travel team. Tony encouraged Dan to attend this meeting.

Equipment:  Tony refers any calls for equipment to Allen.  There is $600 at Dick’s that we need to use, preferably for balls so that we don’t spend cash on balls.  If we don’t use the Dick’s money we will lose it.

Schedules: softball starting to look at schedules and Tony encouraged baseball to do the same.

Jessica Roy: Wants to donate money to help build dugouts. She is still onboard with this idea.

T-ball:  Angel reviewed T-ball info. Reminded all that it was determined that age minimum was 5 years old. Concerns over 4 year olds trying to push in too early. Consideration requirement is that a parent must commit to coaching or wait until they are 5. It is felt that it is just not safe.

LJAL Meeting Min Cont’d

March 2, 2015

Playing up: If a parent wants a child to play up they must come to clinic and be evaluated as to where they belong. It will be determined on a case by case basis. The child will need to be evaluated and the parent can see what the child will be playing against.

Sponsorship: Allen updated on current status of sponsorship.  We have between 24-29 sponsors. McDaniel’s trucking will most likely replace Harvey Metals. Team colors are being looked at as well.

Equipment: Allen reviewed equipment status and fields in general, reviewed needs and made recommendations. Scorebooks are needed. Keys are needed for the boxes. New Garage lock needed and Gary is working on that.  20-24 dozen balls are needed for tournaments.

Field and parking update: Parking lot work needs to get underway and he is working with the town to get this done, but we will need to buy paint. Will need Volunteers to help with parking.

Senior Babe Ruth: Gary noted that there was a sign up and suggests that next year we should consider a team.  Discussed possible transition back to Legion ball for this age group and associated costs. Tony recommended Gary discuss with those who run this league.

Cal Ripken:  Dan updated. He will need board members to help with clinics on 3/22.  He ordered 55 shirts for clinic but need about 60 more.  There are a few kids from Durham and possibly a few from Lewiston that may attend. Current dates of importance:  4/5 evaluations with drafts.  6/4-5 is the in house tournament. Discussed when we end season for the leagues and possible inclusion of Durham. Addressed concerns over a lot of tournaments in June and the need for considerable help.

Farm: Chris updated on farm league.  It is going well, a couple of kids trying to move up.  Several volunteers for coaching. There is 1 child being moved down to farm.

Fields: Dennis discussed issues with the fields and how everything is going to be dependent on the weather. A lot of help is needed to get the fields ready.

Next Meeting: March 16 at 6 PM at the MTM

Motion to adjourn: second to the motion and meeting adjourned.

Tournaments to keep in Mind: Cal Ripken will try to have a Rec tournament the first weekend of June for the end of the year.  Lisbon is hosting Districts this year.  Tony A thinks Districts will be the 3rd week in June.  Softball is hosting a tournament the last weekend in June.
