Dynamic Duo for the Hoyas this Year

February 20, 2011
The 16u Columbia Hoyas for 2011 season has alot of promise this year. We have two of the top rated sophmores in the state of South Carolina returning this years. Michael Williams is one the best Small Forwards in the country. He can do it all from playing the point to being our center on the team. He can shoot the 3, score on the inside, and dunk on you. Khalil is my scottie pippen on the team. He can score anywhere on the court, rebound, defend the best player on the other team, and can dunk on you too. This team has potential to be one of my best teams ever.

Listed below is the article about our upcoming Hoyas:

BRIAN LINDER/T&D
Sophomore stars Mike Williams, left, and Khalil Halls have Lake Marion riding a 10-game win streak heading into tonight’s home Class 3-A playoff opener against Lakewood. .
..SANTEE - Talk of the streak brings a smile to Roy Brown's face.

Although, the smile is far less a matter of pride and more of the type of smile one might put on when caught trying to get a little sneaky. Brown's Lake Marion Gators (15-7) will open the playoffs at home tonight against Lakewood (8-15) at 7 p.m., and they will do so riding a 10-game winning streak.

That is where the smile comes in.

"I don't want anybody to know that," Brown said.

But, the word is out on the red hot Gators, led by a duo of athletic and versatile sophomore forwards - Mike Williams and Khalil Halls.

At 6-5, Williams, who has 10 double-doubles on the year and is averaging 13 points and nine rebounds, is the show-stopper who features an array of athleticism and dunking ability that is often unrivaled. Halls, 6-2, averaging 14 points and nine rebounds, isn't far behind in athletic ability.

Lake Marion features just four seniors - Sam White, Eric Stokes, Marquise Watson and Raymond Fields - and Brown said his young team, which started the year 5-7, seems to be coming together at the right time.

"I think they just got more relaxed with each other," he said. "We finally began to gel as a team. This is what we expected at the beginning of the season."

Halls said once the wins started coming, the team just rode the wave of momentum.

"It just made us feel good," he said. "It changed the way we were playing. We felt like nobody could beat us."

Williams said the difference was on the defensive end.

"We made defense our first priority," he said. "We just knew that if we played defense, offense would come. We are comfortable. We think we can beat anybody right now."

Which is why Brown is guarded heading into tonight's game.

"I just hope that our guys can continue playing well," he said. "Right now, we are playing very good ball.

"I really don't know a whole lot about Lakewood. They are aggressive on the boards, but other than that, we will find out tomorrow night."

The difference for Lake Marion however, could be the duo of super sophomores - Halls and Williams.

"We are going to do well if they come out and play well," Brown said. "But, we have a good bench and we need everybody that comes in to produce. That is what you expect in the playoffs, everybody to produce."

Columbia Basketball Invitational 2009

March 20, 2009
The Columbia Hoyas started the 2009 season with a bang. We played the Carolina Flight to open the season and we won 67-42. We were led by Torrance Wright 23pts and Michael Williams with 8pts & 5rebs. The team played well together and the coaches did an outstanding job. The 2nd game was not that great, we played the Southern Kings(Sponsored by Lebron James) they beat us 72-47. We were led by Khalil Halls with 11pts and Maurice Daniels Jr. with 7pts. The 3rd game we won, but I don't have stats yet. The 4th game was our game to get to the championship game with the Southern Kings. We let the Team Voices get off the hook. We led the whole game, until the last 3 minutes of the game. We lost 45-44 at the buzzer. We were led by Maurice and Khalil with 13pts each. The hoyas had alot of mental mistakes down the stretch run. I think they will bounce back after a few weeks of practice. I look forward to seeing them play in there next tournament in North Carolina.

Keep up the good work!!! GO HOYAS!!!!!!!!!
