What age levels can play Grand Rapids Lacrosse? Boys 3rd Grade to 12th Grade & Girls 4th Grade to 12th Grade

What is US Lacrosse and why do I need a membership in order to register? US Lacrosse membership is required by the state league and GRALA to provide liability insurance for the student/athletes, coaches, and GRALA in case of damages caused when practicing or playing lacrosse.  There is also some supplemental health insurance coverage in case of injury.  Log in to your account at US Lacrosse for specific coverage from Bollinger Insurance.

How do I know what age group my child should play in? During the online registration process you will be asked to submit the DOB for the players you are registering and they will be assigned to the correct age group. *The association will conduct an assessment and make any recommended adjustments for the levels based on an individual child's skill development. This also applies to kids that ‘Played Up’ last year.

When does it start? Indoor open gyms start in early February. The actual game Season starts in April.

When does it end? This depends on the level your child will play. Most end in May and the older levels may go to mid-June depending on State Tournament schedules.

When/where is practice? How often is practice? When/where are games? Please feel free to contact the coordinator that applies to your group as listed on the ‘Contact’ section of this website. As the actual season begins you will be able to find this information on this website.

How much does it cost? Please refer to the fee schedule in the Online Registration section of this website.

Do I have to buy equipment? What? What is the cost? We have some starter sets that kids can use to try the game. If they decide to join they will need to purchase a helmet, a chest protector, elbow pads, a colored mouth guard, gloves and a stick. Starter kits run about $180. Clafton’s Sporting Goods is one of our sponsors and are the local option for advice on gear. Also please check out the ‘Spiritwear’ tab on this website to find official GR Lax clothing including shorts.

Is there a way to buy/sell used equipment? Yes, please check out Grand Rapids Lacrosse on Facebook. Feel free to post your items for sale and look for used items already listed for sale.

I'm from Greenway, can I play? Yes! Feel free to talk to Sue Holm about it!

I’m from Deer River, can I play? Yes! Please contact the coordinator listed for your level on the ‘Contact’ page of this website.

Can I still register? Yes. Please use the online registration and follow the instructions for payment..

Do we have to buy a uniform? Jerseys and pinnies are provided. Upper levels may get shorts as part of their uniform. Younger levels should have their own shorts. (Black is preferred)

Will Lacrosse become a school sport in the future? The hope is that the School Board will approve a plan for the Lacrosse program to be self-funded at the High School level in both Girls and Boys. For 2016, we remain a strong club level sport with full schedules in both the Boys and Girls programs. We hope to have an answer from the School Board regarding the 2017 season by the end of this season.

I’m so confused!? Please help! You are welcome to call GRALA’s President- Mark Surface 218-259-5182
