The purpose of the Branchburg Basketball Association shall be the promotion of the game of basketball for youth in Branchburg and Somerville within an environment that upholds the ideals of sportsmanship, scholarship and physical fitness.

The objectives of the program are to familiarize players with the fundamentals of the sport, to provide them with the opportunity to participate in a supervised, organized, and safety-oriented manner, and to ensure that participants remain free of any adult ambition not within the established philosophy of the Association.

The BBA fulfills this objective by affording an opportunity to all resident children of Branchburg and Somerville in  grades 3-8 to play league basketball, either in the In-town program or through more competitive travel teams.

The In-town program provides a competitive atmosphere where all participants play a significant portion of each game. The season begins in early December and ends in February. Games are usually played on Saturdays and practices will be held during the week in the evenings. The BBA intends that all applicants who apply by deadline will be allowed to play. If our registration numbers exceed the gym space that we have, the BBA reserves the right to take registrants on a first come - first served basis.

The objective of the Travel program is to develop the skills and attributes of each player within a more competitive environment.  Coaches are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with this objective. While scheduling is up to the discretion of the individual coaches, Travel teams will practice at least twice per week, and play a 25 to 40 game schedule.  Practices begin in October after tryouts and the game schedule runs from December through mid-March. Every coach will focus on developing every participant to his/her full potential through ample practice time and in scrimmages and games. The BBA, and many of the leagues it participates in, set  minimum requirements for playing time, and these guidelines vary by age. Actual game playing time will follow the rules provided by the league or tournament. Beyond that, playing time is ultimately left to the discretion of the coach.
