 Spring Summary of Playing Levels

6U – Boys & Girls  ($75)

Age as of 5/1/2016

Ages 5 & 6 as of May 1st of the upcoming season and are currently in Pre K or entering Kindergarten for the coming school year. (60 ft. base paths – Softee Baseball)

This level is a beginner instructional level. Each team will practice 2 times a week once during the week and on Saturday. Soft toss pitching from coaches will be used to pitch to kids so they get accustomed to hitting a live ball.

 

8U      ($85)

8u Baseball Kid Pitch Age as of 5/1/2016

Ages 7 & 8 as of April 30th of the upcoming season and are typically in 1st and 2nd Grade (60 ft. base paths - 40 ft. pitching rubber). This level continues to instruct the fundamentals introduced in 6U Coach Pitch while introducing live game play. This is now a Kid Pitch level with pitching at a 40' pitching distance.  There is an end of the season in-house tournament. Each team will practice 2 times a week. Practice and games are typically played on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

10u Baseball - Kid Pitch Age as of 5/1/2016

Ages 9 & 10 as of April 30th of the upcoming season and typically are in 3rd and 4th Grade.

10U (60 ft. base paths - 46 ft. pitching rubber) 

This is an internal competitive level where 10U boys are “Drafted” onto teams to allow for a equal level of play across all teams. All players will be evaluated (new and returning players at date TBD in February). Practices will start in Early March and games will begin in Early April and conclude in Early June right around when school is over. There will be up to 3 practices or games during the week.  There will be an end of the season playoff for all our teams when we crown our 10U Champion.  Additionally there is a mid-season All Star team that is selected by the coaches played at Garrett Park under the lights.  

Note: There is an opportunity for each boy to try out to make and play for a 9U and 10U Travel Tournament Teams.  Each team will play in some nearby weekend tournaments after the internal season has completed. The Travel Tournament Teams will require an additional time and monetary investment other than the standard registration fees. Please talk to your coach or commissioner if you have any questions. Look for the try out dates to come after the season begins.

10u Softball - Kid Pitch Age as of 1/1/2016

Ages 8, 9 & 10 which is typically 3rd and 4th Graders (60 ft. base paths - 35 ft. pitching rubber – 11” Hard Softball)
This level introduces competition to the girls by playing teams from other local communities. This is a Kid Pitch level and will require some local travel. Practice and games are typically played on Tuesday and Thursday.

There will be an end of the season playoff and the opportunity to play in some nearby weekend tournaments.

 

12U    ($95)

12U Baseball – LANCO Youth Baseball League (Midget Midget) Age as of 4/30/2016

Ages 10, 11 & 12 as of April 30th of the upcoming season and are in 5th and 6th Grade   The 12U level is the first level for SWS to participate in the LANCO Youth Baseball League:  Lanco League Rules   

This age has three Sections of play and the makeup of teams is decided after evaluations for all the boys in this group by an independent evaluation committee as specified in our Team Roster Selection Process.

  • Section 1 (70 ft. base paths - 50 ft. pitching rubber)  
  • Section 2 (70 ft. base paths - 50 ft. pitching rubber)      
  • Section 3 (60 ft. base paths - 46 ft. pitching rubber)

 12U Softball A & B Level

Age as of 1/1/2016

Ages 10, 11 & 12 which is typically 5th and 6th Graders (60 ft. base paths - 40 ft. pitching rubber – 12” Regulation Softball)
This level steps up the competition as the girls will be divided by ability into an A and B level. The 12U A is very competitive with girls often playing on a club travel team in addition to the SWS Recreation team that participates in the Donegal Rheems Girls Softball League. The 12U B is usually for girls in their first year at 12U who are adjusting to the bigger 12 inch softball and the 40 foot pitching distance. This is a travel level with an end of season playoff.
  

Practice and games are typically played on Monday and Wednesday. There will be an end of the season playoff and the opportunity to play in some weekend tournaments in Lancaster County.

 

14U    ($95)

14u Baseball – LANCO Youth Baseball League (Junior Midget)  

Ages 12, 13 & 14 as of April 30th of the upcoming season and are in 7th and 8th Grade   The 14U level is the last step before high school baseball. All three Sections compete on fields that have 80 ft. base paths and 55 ft. pitching rubber in the LANCO Youth Baseball League:  Lanco League Rules   

        The makeup of teams is decided after evaluations for all the boys in this group by an independent evaluation                       committee as specified in our Team Roster Selection Process.

14u Softball A & B Level

 

Ages 12, 13 &14 typically 7th and 8th Grade (60 ft. base paths - 43 ft. rubber)

This level continues to prepare the girls for High School competition as well as providing the recreational environment     they are looking for. This is a county wide travel league, with some weekend tournaments and an end of season league playoff.  Practice and games are typically played on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. This season won’t start until May when the High School Season is typically over to allow for girls in high school 9th grade high to play. 

 

16U    ($95)

Ages 15-18 typically 9th to 12th Grade (60 ft. base paths - 43 ft. rubber) This is a county wide travel league where the girls can continue to develop and improve their skills for High School competition. There are several tournaments as well as a league playoff. Most of the games are played at Garret Park in Willow Street.
