VAGSA will once again be offering Fall Ball this year. Fall Ball is for high school kids (sorry recent graduates) including incoming Freshmen for this coming school year. Please see the flier located under "Fall Ball" for more information on this softball program.
We will be playing in the Capitol Area Fall Fastpitch League. Weekly play may start as early as the end of August or after Labor Day and will run for six weeks into early to mid-October. Fall Ball is a great opportunity to keep your softball skills up, play other teams from our area, and create new diamond friends.
Registration for Fall Ball opens on August 1. Registration is done through the VAGSA web site (www.vagsa.org). Registration will be open through August 20.
Where are games played? We likely will be playing in Oregon, Middleton, and other cities in our area. We will be traveling to other towns for our games.
When are games played? We will play doubleheaders on Sunday mornings, usually starting at 9:00 or 9:30. We will be done by 12:00 or 12:30.
What about attendance? Although Fall Ball is somewhat loosely run, we do expect players to commit to attending games if they sign-up for Fall Ball. If you will be missing a Sunday, please provide advance notice to your team's coaches. We will work around Homecoming.
How are teams created? Players will be spread across our team(s) based on skills, age, and position. Fall Ball is a great opportunity to refine skills associated with playing your favorite position or to try your hand at other positions. Plus, you will likely get to play with players from other schools.
Can I invite a friend to join? Fall Ball is open to high school students, only. If you have any softball friends from neighboring schools that you would like to join you for Fall Ball, please feel free to share this email and attachment and invite them to join you in playing Fall Ball.
What is the cost to play? Costs are kept to a minimum as Fall Ball is more about creating the ability to play softball than it is charging players. Fees cover team t-shirt, game balls, field rental, and umpires. Cost will be $50/player to play 6 weeks of softball (12 games).
Do you need Coaches? Yes, coaches are usually parent volunteers that help to manage the game for the teams. Coaches will prepare their line-up, provide input/coaching as appropriate, run warm-ups, and interact with the umpires and other coaches as needed. This is an informal role that is less about coaching, book keeping, and formalized line-ups and more about keeping the team organized and running each Sunday. We can use a minimum of two volunteer coaches per team. Parents, please seriously consider helping out by being a volunteer coach for Fall Ball.
