Season Info

When does the season start?

The Spring season typically starts at the beginning of April. Practices for the Spring season start mid-March. The Fall season typically starts early September with practices starting mid-August.

How many games are played during the season?

The Spring season for all divisions except Tee Ball typically consists of 16 games. One weeknight game and one Saturday game. Tee ball is usually 10 games with all of them played on Saturdays. The Fall season for all divisions typically consists of 8 games all played on Saturdays.

When are practices?

Practice day and times are at the discretion of the Coach and Player Agent. Teams typically have one practice on a weeknight and one practice on Saturday before games start. Once games start the Saturday practices will stop. Some coaches may elect to hold additional practices during the week if there is interest.

Is there an orientation prior to the start of the season?

Yes, we will have an orientation and Coach/Player meet and greet night prior to each season. This is a great opportunity to meet your coach and FBCH Board members, get all the information on the upcoming season and ask any questions you may have. Information will be sent out on the time and location at least a week prior to the meeting.

Evaluations

Does my child need to go through an evaluation?

It depends. FBCH does not typically hold evaluations but does reserve the right to require them prior to team assignment. Situations where an evaluation may be required can include, but are not limited to:

  1. Your child would like to play in a division above his/her age level
  2. FBCH is fielding a travel team and your child would like to participate on it
  3. Registration numbers require multiple teams in a division and coaches would like to hold an evaluation before splitting players between the teams.
  4. Coaches are fielding a tournament team for tournaments outside of the normal league schedule

Playing Time

Will my child play every game?

Yes, FBCH wants your child to have a positive experience playing baseball. FBCH follows Cal Ripken playing time rules. This includes a running batting order, which means every player bats, and a rule of no player may sit on the bench for more than two consecutive innings. Outside of these rules, playing time and player positions are left to the discretion of the coach. A coach may elect to sit a player an entire game (must exclude that player from the game day roster) for discipline reasons if necessary.

If you are concerned about playing time, please speak with your head coach or contact FBCH at frederickbaseball.cloverhill@gmail.com.

Pictures

Does FBCH offer player and team pictures?

Yes, FBCH offers pictures during both the Spring and Fall seasons.

When are pictures?

We try to schedule pictures at the start of the season. If possible we will schedule them before games start.

Will I get my pictures before the season is over?

Yes, you should receive your pictures before the season is over. We try to schedule them early to ensure this. Pictures will be distributed by your coach or team mom/dad.

Does my child still need to show up if I don’t plan on purchasing pictures?

Yes, please bring your child to the picture session so they can be a part of the team picture. Many players purchase team pictures along with individual pictures. Team photos are also provided to coaches and team sponsors. You are not obligated to purchase any photos.

Uniforms

Does my child have to wear a uniform?

Yes, uniforms are required to play in games. A uniform consists of a jersey, baseball pants, and a hat. Baseball socks, a belt, and cleats are encouraged.

Do I need to purchase a uniform?

Jerseys and hats are provided by the league as a part of the registration fee. Parents are responsible for baseball pants (color to be determined by your coach), socks, and cleats.

When are uniform orders placed?

Uniform orders are typically placed one month prior to the start of the season. You will be asked to provide your child’s jersey and hat size during the registration process to help facilitate the process. Please feel free to email FBCH at frederickbaseball.cloverhill@gmail.com if you have questions about sizing.

When are uniforms delivered?

Uniforms are typically delivered the week of the first game.

Concessions

Do I need to volunteer to work concessions?

Yes, FBCH asks that each family volunteer for at least one spot per registered player to work the concession stand. Concession stand spots typically are for 2 hours.

Do I need to volunteer during my child’s game?

No, you can volunteer to work a time slot during any home game of the season. FBCH uses SignUp.com to manage concession stand time slots. At the beginning of the season time slots are created for all divisions (Majors, Minors, Rookies, and Tee Ball) home games. You may choose a time slot during any home game that is open.

Is there training?

The FBCH Concession Stand is easy to work but we understand it may seem overwhelming to those who have not done it before. Instructions are located in the concession stand as well as here. Training sessions for new families will be held prior to the start of the season. We will try to have these coincide with orientation night. FBCH Concession Coordinators are also highly visible during the season and are available to help.

Fundraising

What type of fundraising will I be asked to participate in?

FBCH holds many spirit nights at local restaurants during the season. These restaurants are typically FBCH sponsors and return a generous portion of sales for spirit nights back to FBCH. We will also sometimes have a raffle or bake sale during the season.

Where does the money raised during fundraising go?

Monies collected from fundraising go to help keep up and improve our fields, purchase new equipment, fund end-of-season league activities, and help keep registration rates low.

Volunteers

Can I volunteer to help FBCH?

Yes!! FBCH is always looking for help. We are a 100% volunteer organization. We are constantly looking for new Board members. Please check out the Committee Duties page to see what our board does and what you would be interested in helping with. Regardless of whether you are ready to jump in head first or just want to dip your toe in please contact us at frederickbaseball.cloverhill@gmail.com if you are interested.

What if I am unsure of the commitment or if any of the Board positions are right for me?

Many of our Board members started with no experience helping run a baseball league. All that is required is the desire to be a part of a league that provides our children an opportunity to develop, play competitive baseball, create friendships, and most importantly have fun in a safe environment. If you want to be a part of FBCH but are unsure how you can help please contact us and we will help you figure out where your talents can be used.

Can I volunteer to be a coach or assistant coach?

Yes! We welcome all parents who would like to help with coaching. During the registration process, you will be asked if you are interested in being a head coach or assistant coach. Please note that background checks are required for all coaches.

What if I want to help but can’t commit to coaching?

We have never had a coach who has refused parent help during practices! Players always outnumber coaches so parent help is always welcome during practice. If you would like to help out, please talk to your head coach.

Can I volunteer to be Team Mom/Dad?

Yes! Team Mom/Dads help the coach with team communications, planning team activities, etc. During the registration process, you can indicate if you are interested in helping as a Team Mom/Dad or you can reach out to your head coach.
