COMMUNITY GARDEN

In 2011, we adopted the West End community garden to foster a wonderful learning environment for student athletes. We helped turn the land into a beautiful and bountiful community garden.

The partnership provided:
• A great opportunity for social interactions
• Lots of healthy, outdoor exercise
• A spot to grow organic, flavorful food
• Education about sustainability and land stewardship
• A chance to contribute food to our local food banks at harvest time
• Satisfaction that comes with a community endeavor

The garden is herbicide and pesticide free, and offer a variety of spaces for organic gardening. To date, nearly 200 lbs. of fresh produce have been donated to neighborhood residents, community food banks and nursing homes. This included fresh lettuce, cucumbers, summer squash, bell peppers and potatoes. And the garden is still producing this fall, especially bell peppers and collard greens.
