NHSCA High School National Championships

March 23, 2010
I traveled to Virgina Beach from March 23-27 to enter the High School National Championships. I had over 85 kids in my bracket. I came up a little short of placing going 3-2 losing 2 close matches to kids who both ended up placing.

2009 Freestyle State Championships

Today I won my 11th WA State Wrestling State Championship. I went 6-0 on the day and finished the season with a 93-4 record with only 1 loss in WA State that a 5-4 defeat at folkstyle state.

2009 Middle School Championships

For the 2nd year in a row I won the Snoking Middle School championships, this year at 95lb. I won all three of my matches by fall. This completes my Middle School Career. I finished both seasons undefeated.

2009 Twin Cities Freestyle Tournament

Took first again today going 8-0 on the day with 3 pins and 5 tech falls. It was a good day for me and I wrestled 8 kids I had never wrestled before in a tournament including 2 of the top kids at my weight from idaho one of which I teched and the other I defeated by fall.

2008-2009 Folkstyle Season

2009 NW Folkstyle Championships

Today I entered the 2009 NW Folkstyle Championships held in Portland, OR. I came away with the Silver Medal. I won my first 3 matches by Tech fall and my 4th match by a 4-2 score. In the Semi finals I scored a fall over one of the top kids in OR., Zachary Z., putting me into the finals where I met the top 91lber in OR, Colton S. I got in on a nice take down which started a mad scramble with me scoring a take down followed by a reversal by Colton then me scoring a reversal taking Colton’s back trying to sink my legs. I was up high on his back, which put me in a bad spot allowing Colton to come out the back door and putting me flat on my back. Colton seized the opportunity and kept me there scoring a fall. Ouch. That’s my second loss on the season, both to kids named Colton.

2009 Folkstyle State Championships

I won the silver medal in the 2009 Folkstyle State Championships. I scored a fall in round 1 then met Colton O. in round 2. Colton is a tough wrestler who has been in my bracket every state championship since I was about 6. I have never lost to Colton before today. We had a good tough match. I got in on the first take down but couldn’t finish and Colton was able to defend well to take a 2-0 lead going into round 2. Colton took down and after a short time was able to score an escape for 1 to go up 3-0. We battled back and forth. Colton got in on my legs and we scrambled with me finishing with a takedown to score 2. With short time to go Colton tried a switch, which I shouldered into trying to put him onto his back. Unfortunately I locked my hands giving Colton and easy point giving him a 4-2 lead going into the final period. I chose on my feet in round three. We battled back an forth until with about 10 seconds to go I was able to finish a take down to tie the score 4-4. It looked like Colton would let the time expire taking us to overtime. With Colton’s corner urging him on he made a final attempt at a switch, which I didn’t do a very good job defending as we rolled out of bounds. The ref felt I lost control and awarded Colton a point and the 5-4 win with 1 second left in the match. I thought we were out of bounds before I lost control, but the ref saw it differently so I had a long haul to win my way back to the silver medal. I ended up with 9 matches on the day going 8-1 to win the silver medal. I want that match back with Colton and look forward to wrestling him in Freestyle and Greco.
I finished the folkstyle season with a 26-1 record.

Lynnwood Folkstyle Tournament

I won the Gold again today going 2-0 in the 91lb bracket scoring 2 falls. I then wrestled the 1st and 2nd place finishers in the 98lb bracket and got 2 more wins both by tech fall. Next week is the folkstyle State Championships.

Yellow Jackets Folkstyle Tournament

I went 4-0 today wrestling at 98lbs. I weighed in at 90lbs. I scored 2 falls a tech fall and won my finals match by a score of 6-4 to win the gold medal. My record on the year improved to 14-0

2008 Berzerker Folkstyle Challenge

Won the Gold again today going 3-0 on the day with 2 falls and a tech fall. I also won the Outstanding Wrestler Award for the Schoolboy Division.

Steelclaw Folkstyle Tournament

I went 4-0 on the day to take 1st place. I again wrestled up at 98lbs. I scored a tech fall in my first match winning 14-3 followed by a 9-0 win, 10-1 win and 14-2 tech fall win.

Lynnwood Folkstyle Tournament

The 2008/09 Folkstyle tournament season started today. I went 3-0 on the day with wins by 6-0, 5-0 and by fall. I weighed in at 89.4lbs and wrestled up at 98lbs.

2008 Freestyle & Greco Roman Season

2008 Freestyle State Championship

For the first time since entering state championships, I went the entire year without winning one of the three wrestling state championships. I came away with a 5th place finish in the freestyle state championships this weekend. I won my first match my tech fall then lost my second match to Dillon H., the eventual 2nd place finisher. I came back with a win by fall in my next match only to lose a close match to Taylor S., the eventual champion, in my following match which knocked my out of title contention and placed me in the 5th place match. I won that match with a quick fall to go 3-2 on the day. I finished the year with a record of 59-7 with 19 wins by fall and 14 wins by tech fall.

USAE Freestyle Tournament

I got back on the winning track today winning all 3 of my matches, one by fall, one by tech fall and one by a tech in round one and points in round two, to take 1st place.

2008 Greco Roman State Championships

I lost my first Greco match ever today and I didn't stop at one. I lost three straight matches for the first time. Instead of losing a couple pounds and wrestling a lighter weight class, I moved up and wrestled a heaver weight class. In the first two rounds I met 2 of the top kids in the state, both 2nd year schoolboys. I was able to win the first round in my first match, but was unable to keep it up through rounds 2 and 3. In my second match I lost on a coin flip, 1-1 in round one then lost round two to lose my second straight. In my third match I again won round one, but the size difference made it difficult with the lifts in Greco for me to score and I lost rounds 2 and 3 by a point each.

Lynnwood Freestyle Tournament

I had 3 matches today in the 91lb bracket. I won my first by tech fall then fell behind in the 1st period of my second match 5-0 before coming back and winning that round 6-5 then recording a fall in round 2 to win the match. In the finals I won the first round on points and scored a fall in round two to win the match and take 1st place on the day.

Mountlake Terrace Freestyle

I moved up in weight today to 91lbs. I only had 2 matches winning my first by tech fall and my second in 2 rounds on points. I also did one exhibition match that I won by tech fall.

Middle School Championships

I finished my first Middle School season by winning the District Championship at 90lbs. I was undefeated on the year winning all my matches by fall except one, that one up at 95lbs vs my USAE teammate Joe K.

Ferndale Freestyle

Won the Gold today going 2-0 on the day winning both my matches by tech fall. This week in Middle school wrestling, I won my match by fall to remain undefeated on the season.

Twin Cities Freestyle

I only wrestled 2 matches this weekend. I got sick after my second match and had to pull out of the tournament. I won both my matches prior to withdrawing.

Bearclaw Freestyle Tournament

Won the gold medal again today going 4-0 on the day with 2 tech falls and 2 falls.

2007/2008 Folkstyle Season

2008 Folkstyle State Championships

Well after winning 98 straight matches, my streak had to come to an end at some point. And it did today in my first match at State vs Jake V. I meet Jake every other year since he is a year older than me. He is also a top wrestler and today wasn’t my day against him as he defeated me by fall in the 3rd period putting me into the loser bracket. I won my next matches, one by an 8-0 score and the other by fall. In my 4th match I met Dontae T. I’ve only wrestled Dontae once before, last year in the finals at State where I defeated him 5-0. Dontae caught me with a great double leg right off the whistle. I’ve never given up a takedown like that before. As I scrambled away, I got my head to close to my Knee and Dontae took advantage of my mistake and cradled me for a fall in 53 seconds. Ouch, that one hurt. I have wrestled 383 matches over the past 8 years and before today have only been pinned 3 times, twice in my first year of wrestling and once a couple years ago at State against another top wrestler, Mike M., who I then came back and defeated in the cross over to win State. To get pinned twice in one day was tough. This was also the first time in competing in 81 tournaments that I did not place in the top 3. I guess it was due to happen sooner or later. Now I’ll go back and continue to train harder than ever to make sure it doesn’t happen again. I still have the Greco Roman and Freestyle State Championships to win this year.
PCJWL Championships


Today I won the PCJWL Championships. I Scored an 8-2 win in my first match followed by a 10-4 win over Josh C. in the semi finals. In the Finals I met Malachi C. I took him down right off the whistle then cut him and took him down again. I cut him again and once again took him down for a 6-2 lead to end the 1st period. In the second period he took down and after riding him for a while I cut him loose to take him down again. However this time I got a little careless on my takedown and ended up giving up a take down to make the score 6-5. With a one-point lead I took bottom in the final period. I hand fought and stayed busy as time ticked away. Finally with about 10 second left he decided to cut me giving me a point for a 7-5 lead. I blocked his final shot to win the match 7-5. My record moves to 26-0 on the year with 98 straight wins.
PCJWL Division Championships


Today I took 1st in the PCJWL Division Championships. Next week is the league championships. I went 3-0 on the day scoring a fall and decision wins without giving up any points. My record moves to 23-0 on the year with 95 straight wins.
PCJWL Sub Districts


Today started the first leg of the PCJWL Championships. I was the #1 seed thus had a bye in the 1st round. In round 2 I scored a fall to advance to the finals where I Jamiel J. I scored an 8-0 victory to secure a #1 seed going into next week’s Division Championships. My record on the year moves to 20 –0 with 92 straight wins.

Lynnwood Tournament


My winning streak continued today as I went 4-0 to win the Lynnwood Folkstyle Tournament. In round 1 I won a 6-0 decision over Adam R. and followed that up in round 2 with a quick fall over a kid I know from school. In the 3rd round I had a tough match over a tough kid I’ve never wrestled before, Josh Crager. I scored a takedown in the first period which was the only scoring in the match as I won 2-0 to advance to the finals. In the finals I met Zach C. whom I’ve been wrestling for years. I was able to come away with the win scoring a fall in the 3rd period. My record improves to 18-0 on the year with 90 straight wins over the past 3 years.
Kent Holiday Tournament


I had three matches today in winning the Kent Holiday Tournament. It was a brutally long day for 3 matches. We didn’t get out of the gym until nearly 8PM. Anyway; I won my 1st match by tech fall. In round 2 I defeated a wrestler, Lucas Eastman, whom I’ve never had a chance to wrestle. Lucas has been one of the top wrestlers in the PCJWL for a long time. I won the match by a score of 4-0. In the finals I defeated a wrestler from Kent whom I played against in the semi final game with Burien during football season. I won the match by Tech to take 1st place. I improved my record to 14-0 on the year with 86 straight wins.
Lake Stevens Folkstyle Tournament


I wrestled my 1st USA Tournament of the season today and took 1st place. I had a seven-man bracket. I received a bye in round 1 then won 4-3 in the second round. I was dominating the match 4-0 mid way through the 3rd period when I got a little careless and ended up on my back giving up 3 points. In the finals I won with a 4-0 victory to extend my record to 11-0 on the year with 83 straight wins.
Dual vs White River and Orting


This week I wrestled in a double dual. I wrestled varsity at 86 lbs. I won my first match with a Tech Fall against White River, 15-0, and followed that with a Fall in my match against Orting. My record improves to 9-0 on the year and I won my 81st straight match.
Maple Valley Round Robin


Today I wrestled in a PCJWL Tournament in Maple Valley. I weighed in at 82lbs and wrestled at 91lbs. I went 3-0 on the day winning all my matches by decision. My record improves to 7-0 on the year with 79 straight victories.
2007 PCJWL Tough Guy Tournament

For the second year in a row I won the PCJWL annual Tough Guy Tournament. I won the 9 and over 87lb division going 3-0 on the day. This is a seeded tournament where I was the #1 seed so I had a bye in round 1. In round 2 I scored a 4-0 decision by getting a takedown and a reversal. Round 3 I won by pin over Justin Wielding to move into the finals against Malachi Conklin. I scored a takedown in the 1st period but then gave up a reversal, the 1st reversal I’ve given up in over 2 years and 1st points in a folkstyle match I’ve given up in 2 years, I then scored on an escape to end the round with a 3-2 advantage. That would be all the scoring in the match as I had the lead and bottom position in the 3rd period so I did what I had to do to not give up any points and come away with the win. Last Sat I wrestled in a dual vs Kent where I scored a 6-0 victory over Tyson in my first match of the year.
My record stands at 4-0 on the year with an undefeated record of 76 in a row.

2007 Freestyle/Greco Season

Freestyle State Championships

Today I won my 2nd Washington State Triple Crown Championship and completed my 2nd undefeated season in the last three years by winning the 2007 Freestyle State Championship to go along with my 2007 Greco Roman and Folkstyle State Championships. I went 5-0 on the day to finish the season 68-0, 178-7 over the last three seasons. I have now won 9 out of the last 10 Wrestling State Championships, with a Bronze medal won in the 10th.
Greco Roman State Championships

Today I won my 4th straight Greco Roman State Championship: my 8th State Wrestling Championship, 10th State Championship overall. I went undefeated today scoring tech falls in all of my bouts. Next week I’ll try and earn my 2nd Washington State Triple Crown Championship by winning this year’s Freestyle State Championship to add to my 2007 Folkstyle and Greco Roman State Titles.
Lynnwood Freestyle

Today was the final regular season tournament. I took 1st place by going 4-0 with all my wins by tech fall. I did give up 6 points today. It’s a lot harder in freestyle to not give up any points in an entire match. My record improves to 61-0 on the year with the Greco Roman State Championships next week followed by the Freestyle State Championships the following Saturday. I hope to continue my undefeated streak and win both State Championships.
NWWC Ultimate Freestyle & Greco Roman Challenge

This tournament today included both Freestyle and Greco competition. I went undefeated in both styles winning all 6 of my matches by tech fall. I did get a bit sloppy in two of my matches, one in Greco and one in Freestyle giving up 4 and 3 points respectively to the same wrestler.
I remain undefeated on the season improving my record to 57-0.
Steel Claw Classic
I got my 300th career win today as I again went undefeated to win the Gold medal at the Steel Claw Classic. I won every match by tech fall, though I did give up 1 point today, the 3rd point I’ve given up this season. My season record improves to 51-0.
Twin City Freestyle Classic

Another 5 matches today, another 5 victories all by Tech fall to win the Gold medal and improve to 47-0 on the year. I gave up another point on the year today by slipping after doing a gut wrench that allowed my opponent to get on top of me to score 1 point.
Sons of Thunder Freestyle Open

I had another 5 matches today all of which I won to improve to 42-0 on the season. I scored tech falls in my first four matches.
USA Everett Freestyle Open

My club put on a tournament today. My winning streak continued as I went undefeated winning all 4 of my matches by Tech Fall. After 35 matches without giving up a single point, I gave up my 1st point of the year today by stepping out of bounds. My record now improves to 37-0 on the year.
Anacortes Invitational:

It’s freestyle season. I competed in the 1st freestyle tournament of the season and came away with the Gold Medal for my 33rd straight win on the season without giving up any points. I won my first match against one of my football teammates, Andrew, by scoring a tech fall in round 1 and winning the 2nd round 2-0. In my second match I won the 1st 2 rounds by tech fall to get the victory and in my last match I scored a tech fall in round 1 and scored a fall in round 2. I was also awarded the Outstanding Wrestler Award for the Novice Division and my brother Michael won it for the Midget Division.

2006/07 Folkstyle Season

Folkstyle State Championships

Today I completed an undefeated folkstyle season by winning my 7th wrestling state championship, my 9th state championship overall. I went 5-0 on the day without giving up a single point in any match. In my 1st match I met the PCJWL Champion and defeated him 3-0. I won the next rounds 5-0, 11-0, and 2-0 which put me in the finals where I won 4-0. On the season I went 30-0 without giving up a single point in any match. I’m going to take a week off then start training freestyle and Greco roman. The freestyle tournament season starts at the end of February.
Wildcat Folkstyle Classic

I wrestled the final regular season folkstyle tournament today and once again went undefeated and un-scored on to complete a perfect regular season at 25-0 with out giving up a single point in any match in my division. Next week is the State Championship where I hope to win my 9th State Championship.
Lake Stevens Berserkers Folkstyle Challenge

I went undefeated without giving up a single point in any match again today to improve to 21-0 on the year. In addition to winning the gold medal for my division, I was awarded the Outstanding Wrestler Award.
NWWC Oregon Classic Qualifier

I continued my undefeated and un-scored on record today by going 3-0 and winning the Gold Medal in the NWWC Oregon Classic Qualifier. I won my first match 6-0, 2nd match I won by fall and 3rd match I won 7-0. My season record is now 18-0.
Lynnwood Tournament 12/30/06
I went 3-0 on the day without giving up any points. I won: 9-0, 9-0 and 6-0 to take 1st Place in the Lynnwood Tournament. My season record improves to 15-0 without giving up a single point.

NW Holiday Folkstyle Championships 12/16/06
Today I won the Gold medal in the NW Holiday Folkstyle Championships. I went 4-0 on the day scoring 2 falls, 1 tech fall and a 6-0 victory. I made it through another tournament without giving up a single point to improve to 12-0 on the year.
Tough Guy Tournament 11/24/06
I wrestled in the PCJWL Tough Guy Tournament today winning the Gold medal in the 12 and under 74lb division. I went 4-0 on the day without giving up a single point in any match for the 2nd week in a row. I met Cody Fakkema in the Gold medal match and got the win with a takedown and a reversal for a 4-0 victory. My season record is now 8-0.

Rhino Folkstyle Classic 11/18/06
I wrestled my first folkstyle tournament of the season today. I took 1st place winning both my matches by Tech fall. I also wrestled 2 exhibition matches and won those as well by Tech fall. My season record is 4-0.
