CANDIDATES FOR PRESIDENT
(1) COREY POINDEXTER
(2) CHERIE THOMAS-TAYLOR
(1) Corey Poindexter
- Experience:
- President of the SJFCYA (2011 – present).
- Vice-President of Stallions (2013 – present).
- Coach for the Sandston Jets (2007 – present).
- Coach for the Stallions Spring Football (2011 – present).
- Other relevant experience:
- Board member for East End Youth Basketball (Media Director) from 2012-2015.
-
- During my tenure as President I established a foundation which helped change the culture of the association from a baseball first, football second mentality to football first mentality. I required all head coaches to have a year round focus on football and assuring our head coaches are knowledgeable in the game of football, are able to teach the fundamentals of the game and are leaders of young men.
-
- As the President I have established excellent relationships with local government officials, including Henrico County Recreation and Parks and the Varina District Supervisor as well as the board members of the MYFL, DY4L and E2E football leagues. As a way to build this relationship with the county I scheduled routine meetings with Recreation and Parks officials to promote the association and demand improvements in facilities for the association. As a result we were able to obtain a new temporary home at Dorey Park and a future home in the new sports park to be built in Sandston. I was also able to lobby for improvements at Seven Pines, such as a new score board (now at Dorey Park); new bleachers with protective railings and the installation of a concrete bibbing at the press box equipment room.
- In addition to performing the duties of the President I routinely performed the duties of Secretary, Treasurer and Metro Representative.
-
- The office of President is a year round position that requires strict attention to details, organizational skills, communication skills, the ability to multitask, the ability to recruit, and an ability to work independently as well as with others (parents, coaches, participants, officials, board members, etc.). During my tenure this is what I have given. I hope to continue the work we started and provide our families a great environment to learn and play football and cheering.
- Other Accomplishments:
- Designed oval logo;
- Added black to maroon/white color scheme;
- Designed white jersey/black game uniforms;
- Annually walked local communities to recruit football players and cheerleaders;
- Annually visit local daycares to recruit football players and cheerleaders;
- Initiated association’s 3 year participation in PYFCO Jamboree;
- Initiated association’s participation in Gridiron 365 VA State Championships (won by our 2012 Midget Team); and
- Created online forms and other forms currently used by association.

My name is Cherie Thomas-Taylor. I am currently the Treasurer for the Sandston Organization. I have been with Sandston for the last 4 years serving and helping out wherever needed. I am also the Vice President of the Stallions which is also affiliated with the Sandston Organization. I have stepped up in the last two years to help run the organization and took charge of many behind the scene jobs. President duties. I believe I can take the organization to the next level with new ideas. You need to be a people person and I believe I work well with the parents and board. Looking forward to a successful season next year if chosen to be your next President or just to still serve on the board.
