Grosse Pointe, MI. (February 18, 2013) – In an effort to bring greater opportunities for training and competition to girls & boys basketball players K through sixth grades, we are announcing the formation of the Grosse Pointe Hoopers AAU basketball club.  The club will be based in Grosse Pointe, offer 5-seasons during the calendar year and multiple teams in each age group. 

“We see a real opportunity to fill a gap in the market, for parents and players seeking additional instruction and competition, outside the traditional recreation, CYO or school programs,” said co-director Kevin Richards.  The club will be affiliated with the Michigan Hoopers, one of the largest AAU Clubs in Michigan.  “We are thrilled to be working with Coach Richards and welcome the passion and commitment he brings to youth basketball,” said Stephen Benard Director of the Michigan Hoopers organization.

Grosse Pointe Hoopers-(GP Hoopers)   

 • The Hoopers AAU calendar season is made up 5-“mini” seasons:-Fall/Winter I/Winter II/Spring/Summer. Each season will last anywhere from 8 weeks to 12 weeks. Teams will practice in the Grosse Pointe area twice a week, have access to AAU training and play locally.

 • Each season will coincide with the Sanctioned AAU Detroit Leagues-(D-Leagues). All Hooper teams will compete in the D-Leagues and play in 1-2 local friendship events. The D-Leagues provide mid-level AAU competition, weekly games and appropriate age brackets.

The club will be directed by Co-Director-(Kevin Richards) and Co-Director-(Stephen Benard).The club will also have a four person board made-up of parent volunteers that will assist the club directors.
