Valley AA 2020 Sports Programming Resolution

 

Whereas, the Valley Athletic Association (hereafter also known as VAA]” wishes to engage in summer programming for children ages 7-18. VAA would like to start by practicing baseball/softball skills and physical activity routines with their baseball and softball organizations during the PA Yellow Phase (starting 6/9/20 in Bucks County) in the summer of 2020; and;

 

The league has followed the Emergency Health Guidance on Youth Sports distributed by Dr. David Damsker, Bucks County Health Director on May 28, 2020, who helped create and endorsed these safe programming guidelines; and

 

Now Therefore be it resolved, VAA has agreed to abide by the following procedures for all VAA youth sports to the best of their ability and to protect the health of all participants and the community during the Yellow reopening phase:

 

To re-start youth sports safely in Bucks County during the PA COVID “Yellow Phase” and with official guidance provided by and endorsed by Dr. David Damsker, Bucks County Health Department Director, the league will ensure:

 

All player parents (or player if the player is an adult)/Coaches will make sure that:

 

A symptom-screen on each player will be performed at home by parents (or player if the player is an adult) prior to each practice using the following checklist:

 

Symptoms to Screen prior to Practice / Play

 

Temperatures checked and no fever present (100.4 or higher)

 

headaches

 

cough

 

muscle aches

 

shortness of breath

 

loss of taste or smell

 

runny nose

 

diarrhea/abdominal pain

 

If any of the above symptoms are identified by the parent (or player if the player is an adult) prior to practice they are required to report the symptom (s) to the coach. If any of the above symptoms are present, they will not be permitted to practice. The only exception would be a runny nose from allergies, which should improve with usage of allergy medications.

 

No one with a fever (temperature reading above 100.4) is allowed to participate per PA screening guidelines and will not be allowed to participate until they have been fever free for 3 days.

 

If during the course of this summer programming a player is known to have tested positive, the team will notify all families and players who attended the same practice(s) as a precaution and individual testing is encouraged if a player is symptomatic.

 

The number of practice participants will be limited and will not exceed 25.

 

Social distancing should be practiced at all times with no physical contact.

 

All participants must wash their hands or use alcohol-based hand rub before practicing / playing and after practicing / playing

 

There will be NO sharing of equipment- all players/coaches will use their own personal and protective equipment as necessary or required for the sport or activity.

 

Coaches in close proximity to children must use face coverings.

 

There would be no “high-5’s”, handshakes, or other displays of sportsmanship. Instead, sportsmanship will be encouraged at appropriate social distance with a nod, tip of the hat, or other appropriate gesture.

 

Carpooling is discouraged – if carpooling is necessary, the use of face coverings is strongly recommended.

 

Shared drinking stations, team water coolers, spitting and gum chewing is prohibited. All participants must have their own individual water bottle / beverage; no sharing!

 

Parents are strongly encouraged to maintain social distancing at all times.

 

Coaches will sanitize anything used during practice prior to the next practice (e.g. balls used in a practice).

 

An attendance log will be kept for attendees at each practice, including both players and coaches, to support contact tracing in the event someone falls ill.

 

NOTE: Basketball and Soccer will not resume until Bucks County is in the “Green Phase” or until the Policies are presented on practicing in the “Yellow Phase”.

All player parents (or player if the player is an adult)/Coaches will make sure to ensure social distancing and that the VAA rules contained in the VAA sports programming resolution as outlined above will be followed.

 

Ensure that dugouts will be used sparingly (dependent on the size of the dugout to keep 6 feet apart) to store equipment.

 

Stands or other areas of the field will be utilized to ensure 6 feet distancing when the players are not playing.

 

Players not playing will wear face coverings.

 

There will be NO sharing of equipment- all players/coaches will use their own personal baseball/softball and protective equipment (gloves, bats, fielding masks, helmets, catching gear, etc.)

 

All softballs / baseballs used in a practice will be sanitized after practice and prior to the next practice.

 

Drills used in practice will prevent the occasion of accidental collisions or close proximity of players including:

 

Drills for stealing home on a passed or wild pitch involving a runner, pitcher and catcher will not be run during the yellow phase and potentially beyond.
