10U Knights Select Mustang League World Series Champs!

The Mustang World Series finished up in Burleson, TX on Sunday evening with the Championship game between Keller, TX and Tijuana, Mexico. Keller came out on top and was the winner of the tournament after a 4-1 victory over Tijuana.

Tijuana opened the scoring of the final game in the top of the second when Rene Montoya Jr.’s RBI single drove in Agustin Meza, who was walked and found himself on second base after a ground out from Emiliano Wells. This would be Tijuana’s only run of the game. Keller began its scoring in the bottom of the third. Griffon Barton hit a double with one out to get on base. Following Barton’s lead, Mason Caillet hit a double of his own putting Barton at third. An RBI double by Hudson White allowed Barton and Caillet to score. White scored on a passed ball to lengthen the lead to 2 runs. Keller ended the third with a 3-1 lead against Tijuana.

Keller scored another run in the bottom of the fourth. David Bird hit a single and then stole second. An error on the second baseman allowed batter Clayton Kelly to reach base and David Bird headed home to score.

That was the last of the scoring for the game. Keller held off Tijuana for the remainder of the game to seal the victory and the Mustang World Series title. Congratulations to Keller, TX on their championship win.

The Knights went undefeated in the World Series to win it all.  They first knocked off the host team, Johnson County Cowboys 25-0.  Then took down the favorite from San Marcos, CA 8-4.  After San Marcos took down the Philippines it set up another rematch for them with the Knights.  Keller took care of business again to eliminate the California (West Zone Champion) 6-2 and put Keller in the championship game vs the favorite Team Mexico from Tijuana (Mexico Zone Champion).

Although, Team Mexico was much bigger than the Knights, the solid pitching, defense, base running and timely hitting provided just the right ingredients for a team from the US to capture the Championship.  This is PONY Elite's first team to win the big one.

It was an incrdible week of baseball and would could not be more happy for the team from Keller to be recognized as the best 10U team in the World out of thousands of teams in the PONY organizations from all continents.

Congratulations to Coach Garza and his staff for their great success!
