The Plainfield Vikings and the Ones Who Care have joined forces to help raise funds for Stephon Roach who would greatly benefit from specialized glasses. Stephon was born with Optic Nerve-Hypoplasia and these glasses will help provide better vision for him.  We our planning two events to raise money to help with the cost of  the glasses. The first is a flag football game with parents playing the coaches.  The second is a basketball game with coaches/ community members playing the youth.

Stephon wants to grow up and be a paramedic and work on cars with his dad on the side! Please help me make his dreams come true.

My son Stephon was diagnosed with Optic Nerve-Hypoplasia at just 6 months old. My son only has peripheral vision and no center vision at all. We were told that he will be like this for the rest of his life and he can only see as far as his arms length. I have always told Stephon that he will face very challenging obstacles in his life and he is determined to be and do the best that he can and live a normal life as a child.

Stephon's story-

Stephon is now 10 years old and struggles with daily life routines.  He cannot walk to school by himself and we live around the corner he must take a bus and a aid has to help him on and off, he cannot see if a car is coming down the street, he can only see about 2-3 feet in front of him.  Stephon cannot play sports as he cannot see baseballs being thrown at him or see the hoop at gym room height to shoot a basketball. My son has to sit up close to the board and use magnifying glasses to read what the teacher writes on the smart boards and to do his homework.  My son has to use the elevator in school as walking down the steps is a struggle, with the amount of kids in school he is very cautious and has to take his time and does not want to fall and in case of a fire drill he needs to have a buddy and hope they lead him in the right direction to safety.

We recently did as demonstration for eSight Eyewear, and from the moment my son put those glasses on his face he couldn't stop himself from smiling, no matter how hard he tried.  During the 28 minute demonstration my son read "GO PLACES" at first I was wondering where he was reading that from, and when I looked out the window it was a billboard from across the highway.  I wanted to cry and jump for joy at the same time. We live 2 houses away from a STOP sign and my son cannot read that until we are basically 2-3 feet away from it.  This was the moment that I knew a miracle was happening. He went from seeing just a few feet to reading a sign across the highway, I will never forget that moment and neither will my son.

These glasses will change my sons life forever, not only in school but in life as he gets older. These glasses will help my son achieve his goals, it will make his life easier.  Stephon is a honor roll student, he can even play the piano and has even mastered making his own songs. This is all because he works extra hard and is dedicated to get to the next level in life.  Stephon cannot read the music sheet books, as the writing is not big enough so my son goes off memory and sound.  With these glasses my son will be able to read sheet music, watch tv like a normal child should, read books and do his homework without having the sheet up to his face or use a magnifying glass.

This perfect eyewear costs $9,995, I cannot afford this myself, I am reaching out to everyone to please help me help my son Stephon see. If I were to reach my goal and be able to call a pair of eSight Eyewear his own, the possibilities would be…endless!

I can’t thank you enough for anything you may give to us on this journey of ours in helping us helping Stephon see.

And, just in case you still can’t believe a pair of glasses could be so magical, go to www.esighteyewear.com/moments and check out the videos. See how they are changing the lives of so many people with low vision; that’s what I hope to achieve soon.

Love,

-Nikki Hargrove, Stephon's Mom!
