Division of Recreation Announces 20 Fall Programs & Activities!

 

 

Chess Club (Ages 6-17) 

 

The chess club meets the first and third Saturdays of the month at the Bayonne Museum, located at 229 Broadway.  The Chess Club is open to Bayonne residents, boys and girls, ages 6-17. 

Chess Master Joe Lux will be conducting the camp, which will include lectures and discussion from Chess Master Lux, as well as tournament style games. 

Start Date:  Saturday, September 20^th.  End Date:  May 16^th        10:00am – 12:00pm. 

Cost: $70.00. 

Parent & Me Soccer Squirts (Ages 2-3)

Parent & Me Soccer Squirts classes are a fun and positive introduction to soccer for children aged 2-3 and their parents!  With a parent participating by their side, kids will have fun learning the fundamental skills of soccer through a program of structured activities, fun based games, and scrimmages.

Each Parent & Me Soccer Squirts session focuses on maximizing participation and learning through a variety of fun games designed to stimulate a child's imagination and develop motor skills.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to spend quality time together whilst easing your child into social situations with support and confidence.

Start Date:  Saturday, September 20^th.  End Date:  Saturday, October 25^th.              9:00am – 9:50am. 

Cost: $95.00.  Register before September 3rd and pay $95. Post September 3rd fee $115.

Soccer Squirts (Ages 3-5)

 

Each session is designed to promote coordination, movement and balance and most importantly fun, fun and fun. United Soccer Academy’s unique Squirts program promotes a love for the beautiful game in a safe and controlled environment

Soccer Squirts learn the fundamentals of soccer through a program of structured activities and fun based games designed to stimulate a child's imagination and develop motor skills.

Start Date:  Saturday, September 20^th.  End Date:  Saturday, October 25^th.              10:00am – 11:00am. 

Cost: $95.00.  Register before September 3rd and pay $95. Post September 3rd fee $115.

Parent & Me Total Sports Squirts (Ages 2-3)

The US Sports Institute's Parent & Me Total Sports Squirts program allow children aged 2-3 to experience a new sport in each session of the program with a helping hand from Mom or Dad! Children have the opportunity to try T-Ball, lacrosse, soccer, basketball, floor hockey, parachute games and more in a safe and structured environment. The Total Sports Squirts program is ideal for any child that needs a little help from Mom or Dad.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to spend quality time together whilst easing your child into social situations with support and confidence, which will enable them to move onto our Total Sports Squirts classes.

As with all Squirts programs, the emphasis is on safety, fun and learning. All sports are presented in a positive and relaxed environment with an emphasis on participation, interaction and communication.

Start Date:  Tuesday, September 23^rd   End Date:  Tuesday, October 28^th4:00pm – 4:50pm 

Cost: $95.00.  Register before September 3rd and pay $95. Post September 3rd fee $115.

Total Sports Squirts (Ages 3-5)

USSI's Total Sports Squirts programs allow children aged 3 to 5 to experience a new sport in each session of the program. Participants have the opportunity to try Lacrosse, Soccer, Basketball, T-Ball, Floor Hockey, Parachute games and more in a safe, structured environment.

The Total Sports Squirts program is ideal for the child who wants to try their hand at a little of everything. As your child develops a favorite sport, they can then move on to one of our sports specific Squirts classes.

T-Ball Squirts (Ages 3-5)

USSI's T-Ball Squirts is a great way to introduce your young sluggers to the exciting game of baseball, all year round!

T-Ball Squirts focuses on the fundamental skills of the game; including hitting, throwing, catching and running the bases. Our progressive T-Ball curriculum enables each child to develop their skills, and understanding of the game.

Using safe and developmentally appropriate equipment, core components of T-Ball are learned through a series of fun games and activities designed to reinforce fundamental skills and incorporate game situations.

Start Date:  Saturday, September 20^th.  End Date:  Saturday, October 25^th.  1:30pm – 2:30pm 

       or 2:45 – 3:45pm

Cost: $95.00.  Register before September 3rd and pay $95. Post September 3rd fee $115.

 

Senior T-Ball Squirts (Ages 5-6)

Tennis: First Play (Ages 5-7)

First Play Tennis is designed to introduce beginner level players to the fundamentals of tennis, including stroke technique, serving, and court awareness and rallying. 

Activities are delivered in a low pressure, yet energetic environment, ensuring optimal learning, all the while maintaining the enjoyment factor of being on the tennis court. These tennis classes are open to the age of 5 years old through to adult.

First Play Tennis is a beginner level class, little or no previous experience is required to participate. If the participant has never played tennis before, or wants to hone their basic fundamental tennis skills, then First Play Tennis is the place!

Start Date:  Wednesday, September 17^th.  End Date:  Wednesday, October 29^th.  4:00pm – 5:00pm

Tennis: Development Play (Ages 8-10)

Development Play Tennis is designed for players who have previous experience, and a good understanding of tennis' fundamental skills.

In Development Play Tennis, players will work towards refining their technique, generating consistent rallying skills, and grasping how to dictate direction of play to make game winning shots. These tennis classes are open to players from the age of 8 years old through to adult.

To participate in Development Play Tennis, the participant should be able to demonstrate a controlled forehand and backhand technique, a basic serving action, and have some understanding of the rules of the sport. Ideally the participant would have completed US Sports Institute’s First Play Tennis classes before joining Development Play Tennis.

Start Date:  Wednesday, September 17^th.  End Date:  Wednesday, October 29^th.  6:00pm – 7:00pm 

Cost: $95.00.  Register before September 3rd and pay $95. Post September 3rd fee $120.

Flag Football (Ages 6-13)

 

The Youth Co-Ed Flag Football League is open to Bayonne residents, boys and girls, ages 6-13.  Every participant will enjoy the game of football in a very relaxed and fun atmosphere.  All individuals will be placed on a team.  Divisions are broken into age groups:  Division I (6 year olds) Division II (7-8 year olds)  Division III (9&10 year olds) and Division IV (11-13 year olds). 

Games will be played during the week at Gorman Field.  Games times are 4:30pm or 5:15pm. 

Start Date:  Monday, September 8^th.  End Date:  First week of November. 

Cost: $5.00. 

Kids’ Travel Club (Ages 6-13)

 

The Division of Recreation Kids’ Travel club is open to Bayonne residents, boys and girls, ages 6-13.  The travel club meets once a month and goes on various trips throughout the tri-state area.  Some trips include:  A tour of Yankee Stadium, Funplex Arcade, Tour of NBC Studious, Menlo Park Mall, Roller-skating, Rebounderz Indoor Trampoline Arena, and many more exciting trips!   Counselors, certified teachers, are on every trip.  

 

Start Date:  September  End Date:  June

The cost of each trip does vary depending on the admission of each place.

 

Yoga Tots (Ages 18 months – 3)

 

Yoga tots (ages 18 months – 2) is developmentally designed to develop gross motor skills, movement creativity, tumbling, physical development, body and social awareness while learning numbers, colors, shapes and songs. 

 

Start Date:  September 13^th   End Date:  December  27^th 

Classes will meet the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.  

Cost: $25.00/class.  Participants may pay as they go and only pay for classes they attend. 

  

Kinder Dance/Motion (Ages 3-12)

 

Yoga dance/Yogamotion is a developmental creative movement and fitness program.  Yoga dance/Yogamotion programs blend creative movement fitness and dance with educational concepts.  This program is a planned developmentally designed education through motor skills, physical development, fitness, nutrition and imagery program which prepares students’ minds and bodies for athletic and academic pursuits. 

 

Start Date:  September 13^th   End Date:  December  27^th 

Classes will meet the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.  

Cost: $25.00/class.  Participants may pay as they go and only pay for classes they attend. 

 

Parent & Me Arts & Crafts (Ages 3-8)

 

With a parent or guardian by their side, the Parent & Me Arts & Crafts curriculum is designed to develop your child’s creative skill.  Arts and crafts can provide a way to create something unique and is a positive, constructive way for your child to express their thoughts.

The program is an excellent opportunity for you to spend quality time together while easing your child into social situations with support and confidence, which will enable them to move onto future programs and activities. 

Start Date:  September 20^th   End Date:  November 22^nd

Classes will meet every Saturday at the 4^th Street Senior Center.                         10:00am to 11:15am.

The cost of the program for a parent/guardian and 1 child is $25.00.   Each additional child is $5.00.

 

Special Needs Sports Program (Ages 4-15)

 

The Special Needs Sports Program will take place on Saturdays once or twice a month, and will include numerous sports activities.  From basketball to bocce to Zumba, the Special Needs Sports Program will be a fun, relaxed and enjoyable experience.  The City of Bayonne believes that every child should have an opportunity to receive and benefit from quality recreational activities.

Start Date:  September   End Date:  June

There is no cost for the Special Needs Sports Program. 

 

Special Needs Arts & Crafts Parent & Me (Ages 3-14)

 

With a parent or guardian by their side, the Parent & Me Special Needs Arts & Crafts curriculum is designed to develop your child’s creative skill.  Arts and crafts can provide a way to create something unique and is a positive, constructive way for your child to express their thoughts.

The program is an excellent opportunity for you to spend quality time together while easing your child into social situations with support and confidence, which will enable them to move onto future programs and activities. 

Start Date:  Thursday, September 18^th   End Date:  Thursday, November 20^th

Classes will meet every Thursday at the 4^th Street Senior Center 2^nd Floor .            4:00pm to 5:15pm.

 

NFL PUNT PASS KICK COMPETITION

 

The competition is FREE and open to boys and girls ages 8-15.

The NFL Punt, Pass & Kick football competition allows youngsters to showcase their talents in punting, passing, and kicking with scores based on distance and accuracy. Boys & Girls compete separately. Age classification is as of December 31st of the current year.

The top finishers from each of eight age groups at the Local Competition will advance to a Sectional Competition. The winners at the Sectional competition will have their scores compared with other Sectional Champions; the top five scorers from the pool of Sectional champions advance to the Team Championship. Age-group champions at this level will be declared NFL Punt, Pass & Kick Team Champions. The top four finishers in the boys & girls divisions within each age bracket from the pool of all Team Champions will qualify for the National Finals at an NFL Playoff game in January.

All participants must fill out an Entry form & Release of liability. Entry forms are available in the Recreation Division in City Hall Room #13.

Adult Touch Football (Ages 18 & Over)

 

You must be 18 years and older to participate in the league.  The league will have separate divisions, depending on the number of teams and the different age groups. 

 

Players must participate in at least 3 games during the regular season to participate in league playoffs.

 

All games will be played on Saturday and Sunday mornings at Gorman Field located at 1^st street. Game times are 10am, 11am, & 12pm.  Games will also be played Monday, Wednesday & Friday Nights.

 

Before submitting your roster, please make sure team will be able to participate.  Forfeits are disruptive to the league and are frustrating to those ready to play.  THE FEE FOR THE ADULT TOUCH FOOTBALL LEAGUE IS $450.00 per team. 

 

Deadline for rosters & MONEY is Wednesday, August 27, 2014.  Rosters & MONEY WILL NOT be accepted after this date!

 

The season is tentatively set to begin on Saturday, September 6, 2014.

 

Adult Co-Ed Soccer League

 

You must be 18 years and older to participate in the league. 

 

Rosters may be submitted any weekday at City Hall Room 13, from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Rosters should be complete with name, address, telephone number, and date of birth of all players.

 

THE FEE FOR THE ADULT CO-ED SOCCER LEAGUE IS $300.00/team.  The fees collected will go towards the costs of running the program.  The fee is non-refundable.

 

All games will be played on Saturday & Sunday Mornings at 16^th St. Park.   Game times are 10am, 11am, & 12pm. Times may be subject to change. 

 

There must be at least 4 men and 3 women on the field per team at all times. 

 

Before submitting your roster, please make sure team will be able to participate.  Forfeits are disruptive to the league and are frustrating to those ready to play.

 

Deadline for rosters, waivers and league fees is Friday, September 5, 2014.

The Division of Recreation Adult Travel club is open to Bayonne residents, ages 18 and over.  The travel club meets once a month and goes on various trips throughout the tri-state area.  Some trips include:  Monmouth Race track, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Flower Show, The Jersey Shore Premium Outlets, the Crab Cake Seafood Festival, and many more exciting trips!  

 

Start Date:  September    End Date:  June

There is a $5.00 registration fee for each trip as well as the cost of admission.  The cost of  trip does vary depending on the admission of each place.
