DEREK WIENER HOME RUN

NEW MUNICH--Ashton Dingmann delivered a walk off RBI single in the bottom of the 9th inning as the Elrosa Saints secured the SCL North playoff championship with a 6-5 victory over Spring Hill on a sunsplashed Sunday afternoon in New Munich! Elrosa fell behind 1-0 but then answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the first. Riley Meyer started on the mound and battled through 5 innings before giving way to Dingmann with the score tied at 4. Derek Wiener put the orange back up by 1 with a solo home run in the 7th inning before the Chargers answered with a RBI sac fly in the 8th inning. Spring Hill then loaded the bases in the top of the 9th inning but a fielders choice, botched squeeze attempt, and a strikeout forced by Dingmann killed the threat. In the Saints half of the 9th, Blaine Fischer reached on single followed by a basehit from Jackson Peter. Wiener then tallied his 3rd hit of the day to load the bases. Dingmann then stepped to the plate and scorched a single through the drawn in infield to plate Winter and deliver the win for Elrosa. As a team, the Saints smashed 13 hits on the day while the defense survived 7 walks and 2 hit batsmen. Dingmann earned the win with 5 innings of relief work. Dingmann threw 3 innings in relief in Saturday's 12-3 win over Greenwald which saw Gavin Kampsen knock in 5 runs with 4 of them coming off a grand slam! Ethan Vogt pitched 6 innings on Saturday to earn the opening round win over the Cubs!

The weekend wins solidify the Navy Nine as the #1 seed headed into the Region 15C tourney. They will play Saturday August 5th at 1:30 p.m. in Lake Henry against #3 seed New Munich. This will be the 22nd time the Saints will be playing at the Region tournament! For Elrosa, the wins marks the 12th time that the franchise has won the SCL playoff championship as well as securing the coveted Keg trophy between the Saints and Chargers. The weekend sweep also improves the Saints overall franchise record during SCL playoffs to 60-53 which dates back to the year 1983.
