SAINTS PUNCH TICKET TO STATE!

August 13, 2023

(Nuke hits 2 home runs!)

LAKE HENRY--Print the t-shirts! Big time players make big time plays and Saturday added yet another great chapter in the storybook that is the Elrosa Saints! Payton VanBeck came back from injury to help shut down the Cold Spring Rockies while Kevin Kuefler and Derek Wiener provided home runs on offense to help secure a 4-1 victory and send the orange to their 11th State tournament! The Saints then played small ball for the remainder of the game to put the game out of reach and the celebration was on. The Navy Nine then parlayed that victory into a 2-1 thriller over Spring Hill in a State seeding game which also locked up the Keg for yet another winter in Elrosa. Elrosa then picked up their 3rd victory of the weekend with a 7-1 win over Kimball to earn the #2 seed out of Region 15C for next weekend's State tourney!

The Saints will play the Hadley Buttermakers on Saturday August 19th @ 1:30 p.m. in Dassel in the first round of State!

(PVB looked sharp in his return!)

On Saturday vs. Cold Spring, Elrosa fell behind 1-0 early against the Rockies but Ashton Dingmann tied the game with a RBI sac fly in the 4th inning. The Saints then got surgical with the bat as Peyton Winter dropped down a perfect suicide squeeze bunt to give Elrosa a 2-1 lead. Kuefler then launched a solo home run to straight center to extend the lead to 3-1 followed by a Derek Wiener nuke into the beans into left center for a 4-1 score. Brett Engelmeyer, a draftee pulled out of the Greenwald pub, pitched 4 scoreless innings of relief to finish the game.

KUEFLER HOME RUN-REGIONS 2023

In game two vs. the Chargers, Derek Wiener continued to rip the cover off the ball as he launched a 2-run home run in the 1st inning to score himself and Jackson Peter. That was all the offense they would need as the pitching was fantastic, the defense was solid, and they held on for a 2-1 victory over Spring Hill! Dingmann went 7 solid innings on the bump and Will VanBeck cleaned up the final 2 innings to earn the save. Cue up Kenny Chesney and Kool and Gang as Keg in the Closet and Celebrate Good Times plays on the touch tunes!

(Ethan dominates on the bump!)

Sunday vs. Kimball, Elrosa fell behind 1-0 but rattled off 7 unanswered runs to thump the Express 7-1 to secure the #2 seed for the State tournament. Ethan Vogt dominated on the mound once again with 8 solid innings to pick up the victory. Vogt pitched out of no-out bases loaded jam in the 5th inning aided by a timely double play. Kuefler, Dingmann, and Peyton Winter each collected 2 RBIs in the contest with Will VanBeck adding an RBI double as well. After the game, the Saints drafted Jim Thull from New Munich and Cole Fuchs from Cold Spring to join them at State! Welcome to the band!
