Broadway Park Renovations

The Renovations at Broadway Field have begun. Here is a list of what to expect in 2015:

Sweetfrog Field (Girls Minors/Majors Softball.) This field is being relocated on the opposite side of the concession stand (former Single A field). The brand new Sweetfrog Field will consist of  a new backstop and fencing, bigger duggouts, coaches box, and improved viewing from the stands. Due to overwhelming input, the new field's playing surface will no longer be of the red clay but of a better draining, less staining material.

Sayville UCC Field (Boys Single-A Field.) This field is being relocated to the far northwest (Versa St. Entrance )corner. (Former Grasshopper field.) This field will be identical to it's predecessor.  A home run fence will be added so our Single A players can have a shot at the "Home Runs for Charity" board. Our Rookies Division will also be playing on this field.

Grasshopper and Pony Field(s) These two divisions will also be playing on a new field that will be located directly behind the Majors (Marlin Pools Field) centerfield fence. This field will also have a home run fence. Even our tee ball players will feel like big leaguers!

Boys AA Field  This division will be playing at Gillette on State Farm Field with the AAA Division. The field dimensions are the same for both divisions. Now the AA division will also have a home run fence to shoot for.

Why the change?

Due to changes in Sayville's Youth Athletic population, the Town of Islip, Sayville Little League, Sayville Youth Football and Sayville Youth Lacrosse wanted to best allocate the fields within our town with the best possible use. Please note. This facilities improvement project will not cost Little League one cent!. You will not see any fee increases due to this project!

Factors for the change.

Sayville Youth Football does not have a full 100 yard playing field.

Sayville Youth Lacrosse does not have a home field to host its games. They will only be playing on Sundays in the Spring and will not conflict with Little League.

And most alarming! Our hometown "Sandlot" field at Gillette has been threatened to be paved for parking if we do not put the Gillette ballfields to more use.

The Sayville Youth Football and Youth Lacrosse programs will now play on a new field at Broadway where Sweetfrog Field and the AA field once were.(For those of you who may not know, the football field was originally here on this very spot)

Now that our AA division is playing at Gillette, State Farm Field will be used everyday!

In addition, the implementation of our official baseball travel organization "Sayville Crimson" has seen an incredible registration increase for Summer and Fall Leagues. This has prompted us to improve our facilities to best reflect Sayville Athletics for our visiting teams.

In an effort to bring our athletic facilities up to par, all three organizations and the town have joined together to work as a team. Our improvement project has received overwhelming support from the Town of Islip, Sayville Youth Football Board, Sayville Youth Lacrosse Board and the Sayville Little League Board. (A Board consisting of several softball parents.)

Our goal is to provide exceptional facilities for our entire community. We welcome your input and hope to have your support. Please understand nothing is being lost through this transformation. Much is only  being gained.

Wishing our Little League Families a healthy and prosperous New Year!

Sincerely,

Bill Sukow -President, Sayville Little League
