Braves Win Two On Sunday To Claim The OVBL Regualr Season Title!
Barton claimed the number one seed in the United Dairy Ohio Valley Baseball League on Sunday as they beat Neffs 17-0 and Maynard 3-1. Game one was in control from the 1st inning. Barton received a 6 inning 14 strike-out outing by Zach Fairbanks as he cruised to the win. Joel atkinson was 5-5, Kirk Smolenak was 4-4 and George Laase was 3-5 with two doubles in the 22 hit attack. Game two was a battle for 1st place as the winner would get the #1 seed for the 2009 playoffs. Barton's Zac Campbell threw a great complete game (eight innings) 1 run game in route to the win. The game was deadlocked at one all until the bottom of the 8th when Ryan Kreiter led the inning off with a single and George Laase on his first pitch went deep for a walk-off homer to win the game 3-1. The huge crwod on hand was going crazy as the Braves clinched 1st place. The playoffs begin Wednesday with all teams except for Barton playing to see who will match-up against each other in the first round of the playoffs. Barton will be at home on Friday at 6:00 with the opponent to be determined. The Braves are now 16-3 on year. Barton is back in action again Friday at home against TBD at 6:00.

    Barton Braves Roster Finalized
The 2009 Barton Braves Ohio Valley Baseball League roster is almost final. Returning from last is the big bruising utility player Charlie Bishop. The OVBL's most consistent catcher Darrin Young returns to be the human backstop. Jonathon Duncan will be back for his sophomore season with the Braves as he was very clutch in timely situations. Another player back for his sophomore season is Dr. Eddie Mcdonald, who shows that hustle can not be compromised. One of the OVBL greats who is one pitching win away from 100 career OVBL victories is back, Joel Atkinson. Matt King, who is another one of the OVBL greatest outfielders to ever play in the league is back in Centerfield. The oldest player in the league, that can play any position on the field Kirk Smolenak is back. Maybe the most electric and explosive player in the OVBL, George Laase is looking for big things in 2009. Charles "Sling Blade" Thompson will be back to fill in any holes in the Barton Lineup. Zac Campbell returns after a one year layoff to be the Braves Sunday pitching ace. Mike Kolvek is back for is 10th OVBL season as pitcher and skipper. Cory Delguzzo will also be back for his Sophomore season with the Braves and is one of the most feared hitters in the league. Tom Pasco who retired after last season has decided he couldn't sit out and will be back with Barton in 2009. There are several new faces to wear the Red and Black this year. Nick Rocchio, current West Liberty State University standout will provide pitching and infield work for the Braves. Monroe Central Grad and Bethany product Chris Leasure will be utilized for his many abilities in the field. Chris Mcintyre, will use his green arm to light up the OVBL hitters. Ryan Kreiter, sophomore at Muskingum will hold down left field. The very athletic pitcher/utility player, Mike Kuklewicz will aid the Braves cause. Last but not least, Zach Fairbanks, a Martins Ferry Grad and Ohio University Ace will toeing the rubber for the Braves this year. The 2009 season looks to be another successful season for the pride of Crescent, OH.

    THE OVBL IS ALL WOOD!
As a result of the scheduled OVBL league meeting, the league managers and officials voted, that the Ohio Valley Baseball League will now be exculsively wooden bat. Not since the first years of the introduction of the metal bat has the OVBL been strictly wood. This is a huge step in the right direction for our historic league. This will now attract more young college talent and help develop them into better hitters. Continue to stop back to www.leaguelineup.com/ohiovalleybaseballleague.com for all the latest OVBL info.
