The LBYO Board met with the managers of the remaining baseball teams and reminded them of the existing LBYO code of conduct policy. The code does extend to all players, parents and spectators in addition to all coaches and managers. It is most important that everyone remember that we are here for the kids, both ours and our opponents. Sometimes you have to be able to walk away from a bad situation to ensure that it doesn't become worse.

    Football and Cheerleading
    Football and cheerleading registrations are going on on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights from 6 pm to 8 pm at the clubhouse. Players must be at least 5, the NESAC league is considering a change on the older end but currently you can not be 15 before December 1st. Football does have weight limits as follows;
    LGFC C (cannot be 7 before Dec 1st) - 67 lbs
LGFC B (cannot be 8 before Dec 1st) - 75 lbs all equipment except helmet
LGFC A (cannot be 9 before Dec 1st) - 75 lbs equipped, some exceptions can weigh w/o shoulder pads
    NESAC PeeWee A & B (cannot currently be 11 by Dec 1st) - 88 lbs
    NESAC Midget A & B (cannot currently be 13 by Dec 1st) - 106 lbs
    NESAC Junior A & B (cannot currently be 15 by Dec 1st) - 132 lbs
The NESAC weights do change as the season progresses and those weights may be increased. They are evaluated YEARLY.

    Cowpatch Day
Cowpatch was a huge success, thanks to all the volunteers who made the day possible. In addition to the home run derby, the bounce rides, dunk tank and great food we had some special guests.
Among the LB supporters were State Rep Dennis O'Brien who's assistance in obtaining state funding for our new gym has been outstanding. Because of the efforts of Rep O'Brien, LBYO will soon have a free standing gym of it's own on the ground between the Dept of Rec building and the church, along side of the Labrum parking lot. More details of the gym will be announced soon, or if you come to our meetings on the first and third Wednesday of each month you'll get updated before anyone else.
In addition, Larry McDonald, father of the late Sgt. Patrick McDonald was on hand to accept a plaque in appreciation of the McDonald's donation to the LB general fund with a substantial grant. Mr. McDonald also was there as the announcement was made that the new LBYO gym would memorialize his son through the naming of the gym in his honor.
Lastly, but not least, Stan Niemczak, of the Brian Niemczak Foundation, along with many family members was on hand to also accept a plaque in appreciation of the years of support than the Niemczak Foundation has provided to the youth of Liberty Bell. Each year, for the past 9 years, the foundation provides us with needed improvements in equipment or field upgrades.

It was truly a great day to be a member of the Liberty Bell community, focusing on our present accomplishments and also our bright future.

It never rains at Liberty Bell...

We're now accepting additional sponsors on our home run fence on field #5.

Since these signs are large, and located at field #5 near the playground area you will not only reach LBYO and visiting families but also reach families using the playground facilities including the preschool people!

    Sgt. Patrick McDonald
Last September, Sgt. Patrick McDonald, a Morrell native, a former LBYO player, Christ the King and Archbishop Ryan student was gunned down while chasing a suspect in broad daylight. Because of his stong community ties, several of Pat's friends organized and ran a benifit flag football tournament that took place on all of our LBYO fields. It was a marathon event with non stop games for an entire weekend and featured police, fireman and numerous other teams from several states.
Larry McDonald, Pat's father and a former fireman who's details included the neighborhood that Pat worked, has been busy raising public awareness of the difficult job that Philadelphia, and really all police face day to day. The senior McDonald was featured in the April 2nd edition of the Northeast Times. You can read the story by clicking on the links.
We are very gratefuly to the McDonald family for making a contribution to LBYO in honor of Pat to help make the club a better place for the youth of our neighborhood.

    Brian Niemczak Foundation
Special thanks to the Brian Niemczak Foundation

The Brian Niemczak Foundation has once again committed to the youth of LBYO. Previous donations have been catcher's equipment (as seen above), batting helmets, hats and visors. This year's contribution from the Brian Niemczak foundation will be seen mostly on our largest field, field 5. Every baseball player at LBYO eventually moves up to the 90' field at LBYO, and now they will enjoy a new scoreboard and foul ball poles. Other improvements will be made throughout the club also courtesty of the BNF.

Brian was a neighborhood kid who played sports at LBYO and passed away in 2000. His family has been active in assisting neighborhood children in various ways since Brian's death, and now has graciously donated this new equipment to us. Funds are raised through various fundraisers, mainly their annual golf outting at Bensalem CC.

    General Meetings
LBYO has membership meeting on the first and third Wednesday of the month at 9pm. Our club supports hundreds of kids in the neighborhood, most likely including yours. Come out and see what's going on, help your organization thrive. Lend us your mind for 1 hour on 2 nights per month. We'll even make it worth your while, if you make the required 12 meetings in 12 months you can become a "voting member," who's rights include half off registrations. For more information email us at info@lbyo.org

    Field locations!
    Field locations are approximate!
Remember that each field location will have SEVERAL diamonds at each location. Sometimes these fields are very far apart. Make sure with your coach which individual field your game is located at, so that you can attempt to park as close as possible. For example, Bustleton has many fields all along Roosevelt Blvd, but some are closer to the mall at Red Lion Rd and some are closer to Conwell Ave. Torresdale BC has many fields, some seperated by the I-95 ramps. Again, your BEST source of information is YOUR team's coach!
