Attention Former Spartan Baseball Alumni, Family, & Friends:
The Superior Spartan coaches are very excited to announce that we will be hosting an inaugural Spartan Baseball Alumni Game this fall. The event will be held at the beautiful NBC Spartan Sports Complex on the grounds of SHS the afternoon of Saturday, September 23rd.
This is the day following the homecoming football game and also the same day as the Superior High School Athletic and Academic Hall of Fame induction. Click here for information about this year's hall of fame class:
After the HOF dinner and induction ceremony, everyone is invited for an informal social gathering at Aces on 29th.
Please help us spread the word on this upcoming event.
2018 Tournament Team Sign up & Evaluation Day: Sunday, September 10, 2017
2018 Grades and Ages: (at Superior High School Baseball Field)
Grades 3 & 4: 9 & 10 and 10 year olds = 10:00 - 11:15
Grades 5 & 6: 11 & 12 year olds = 11:30 - 12:45
Grades 7 & 8: 13 & 14 year olds = 1:00 - 2:15
*The purpose of the event is to gauge interest in 2018 tournament teams, evaluate players, and help us make tentative plans regarding age groupings and schedules for the 2018 season. Final rosters and team groupings will be made in March (date TBD).
*Off Season skill building camp opportunities will be shared at the evaluations.
*No fees will be required or collected.
*Little League Baseball to Begin Utilization of August 31 Age Determination Date for the 2018 Season; Children Born Between May 1 and August 31, 2005 to be Grandfathered as 12-Year-Olds For 2018 Season (SYO will be affiliating with Little League Baseball in 2018)
*The goal of the SYO is to provide and support tournament teams for each group between age 10 & 14. However, we may have combined age groups, based on actual interest level (i.e. we could have a 14U team consisting of 13 & 14 year olds or a 10U team with 9 year olds).
*The overall guiding principle is that regardless of current skill level, all players are capable of improving their skills with good coaching, time, and player/family effort. This Growth Mindset shall guide the SYO when making rosters. Benefit of the doubt on current skill level shall be given when there is support from the family and a desire of the player. Of course, not all players will be Tournament Team ready. If there is a concern for the safety of the player or other members of the team, this must be play a part in the final decision of team placement.
*Tournament Teams provide a more competitive baseball experience for Superior Baseball players. Participation requires a greater time and financial commitment. Teams may have a longer season, will practice more, and participate in tournaments. *However, please note that many tournaments are local and DO NOT require the additional cost of motels. (Superior Last Chance, Western Duluth, Eastern Duluth’s Art Von, Proctor, Rice Lake, etc.)
*The intention of the SYO is to create and finalize a structure in 2018 that allows Tournament Teams to remain together on one team the entire summer.
