Recap from Elizabethtown, Ky 13u Regionals

July 24, 2014

Eighteen teams representing different geographic areas around to the Ohio Valley met in Elizabethtown Kentucky on Wednesday. Games began Thursday with each team playing 3 "pool-play" games. Pool-play are games played to determine seeding in the playoff bracket. The playoffs (Saturday after pool-play) and are single elimination.

Thursday - Westmont Home vs. Elwood Indiana @ Noon - Westmont wins 11 to 3

Westmont jumped out to an early 7 - 0 lead after 2 innings. Early highlights included 5 RBIs from "Player of the Game" Zach Gooding. Westmont wins the first game of pool-play 11 to 3 over Elwood.

Thursday - Westmont Home vs. Russel County of Eastern Ky @ 4:30pm  - Westmont wins 8 inning thriller 13 - 12

Westmont faced Russel County of Eastern Kentucky in the second pool-play game of the day. Up 7 - 3 after a 7-run 3rd inning, Westmont gives up 6 in the top of the 4th and scores once at the bottom to make it 9 - 8. Trailing one in the Bottom of the eigth Westmont scores 2 including a walk-off single by Alex Marotta to win 13 - 12. Westmont is 2 - 0 in pool-play. 

Friday - Westmont Home vs. Hancock County of Western Ky @ 2:30pm - Westmont comes back to win 20 - 12

Westmont faced Hancock County of Western Kentucky in the last game of pool-play. Westmont found itself in a 5 - 0 hole after 3 innings of play, however a 15-run 4th inning put Westmont up 15 - 8 after 4. Westmont cruised to a 20 - 12 win. Alex Marotta was 4 for 5 and Zach Gooding was 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs. The boys finish a perfect 3 and 0 in pool play.

Saturday - Second round of playoffs - Westmont wins rematch vs. Hancock County 7 - 4

3 - 0 Westmont scores a first-round bye and sets up second-round rematch vs. Hancock County. Westmont scored 3 runs on two singles in the 3rd and never looked back. The boys move on to the semifinals.

Sunday - Semifinals - Westmont Away vs. Janesville of Southern Wisconsin - Janesville 15 Westmont 1 

Westmont finishes 4 and 1 for the tourney with a semifinals appearance. Amazing job players and coaches!! Congratulations on a great allstar season.


Congratulations State-Champion 13-Year-Old AllStars!!

The Westmont 13-year-old Allstars are state Babe Ruth Champions after sweeping the state tournament last weekend. They will travel to Elizabethtown, Kentucky this week to participate in the Ohio Valley Regional tournament. Congratulations and good luck to all the players and coaches!

We are happy to announce that Westmont will continue with a Fall Baseball program again this September for the ninth year.  We will play a ten game schedule over five straight weekends.  Each team will be scheduled to play two games each weekend.  Games will be played on Friday evenings and Saturday & Sunday mornings to evenings. Play will tentatively begin the weekend of September 5th.

Monthly Meetings

Monthly Meetings are held at 7:00PM on the first and third Wednesday of each Month at the Westmont Community Center. Everyone is Encouraged and Welcome to attend. We are always looking for New Ideas and Thoughts on how to improve our program. Our next general board meeting is Wednesday, June 18th @ 7 pm.


About Us

The Westmont Youth Baseball Assocation is a program of service to youth ages 5 - 20. It is geared to provide an outlet of healthful activity and training under quality leadership in the atmosphere of wholesome community participation. The program is dedicated to helping children become good and decent citizens. It strives to inspire them with a goal and to enrich their lives toward the day when they must take their places in the world.
