GCAA Basketball is Now Accepting Applications for the 2014-2015 Season.

GCAA, an entity that has been running sports in Garden City for over 50 years, is now accepting applications for the 2014-2015 basketball season.  The application will be sent home in school backpacks the week of Sept 15th and can also be downloaded from the GCAA website, www.gc-aa.com.  Please sign up early as the number of registrants will determine the amount of court time GCAA receives.  By signing up now, you lock in the rates of $60 for the K-1 Clinics and $100 for intramurals. Late fees of $25 apply after October 31st.

The intramural season starts on Saturday, December 6th and runs thru mid-March. PLEASE NOTE GCAA BASKETBALL IS A SEPARATE AND DISTINCT ENTITY AND SHOULD NOT BE CONFUSED WITH GARDEN CITY BASKETBALL. GCAA runs our intramural program on Saturdays at St. Paul's.  GCAA Basketball has improved its programs significantly over the last 5 years as we look forward to continued success. GCAA Basketball sets itself apart in the following ways:

GCAA had over 60 intramural teams last year in the 2013-2014 season. This season we expect even more.

GCAA has intramural standings, playoffs and player clinics. The standings and rosters are posted on the GCAA website. The GCAA season ends with “Championship Saturday” in March.

GCAA had over 18 travel teams in the 2013-2014 season. This season we expect even more. Travel Try outs will take place during the weeks of September 29th and October 6th. Please see a separate article about the GCAA travel program in this edition of the GC News.

GCAA runs a Challenger Program for the physically and mentally challenged with over 100 participants.

GCAA runs actual games for 2nd grade boys and 2-3 Girls.

GCAA will again have Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon times at the St. Paul's facility in the 2014-2015 season.

GCAA has drafts for all intramural teams 2nd grade and up in an effort to make sure teams are balanced and fair.

GCAA Announces Try Outs for Travel Basketball

GCAA will be hosting try outs for Travel Basketball the weeks of Monday Sept 29th and Monday October 6th.  The teams will play in the highly competitive Island Garden League. You do not need to try out if you have any interest solely in playing GCAA intramurals. In that case, just fill out the GCAA intramural application. The intramural application can be downloaded from the GCAA website www.gc-aa.com and then clicking on the basketball link. In order to be eligible for travel try outs, all players must pre-register for the try out via email with the applicable contact listed below and bring a $375 check payable to GCAA to the try out. The fee for the Island Garden travel season, which starts in mid November and runs thru March, will be $375 per player which includes participation in GCAA intramurals. There is an additional charge of $50 for uniforms.  Any intramural fee paid in advance will be credited towards the $375 travel fee.  Please note the travel program is not an introductory program as our teams will play the best basketball teams from around the New York region. GCAA Travel typically works around other in season sports when scheduling try outs, plans around Middle School/CYO conflicts during the basketball season and ensures there are no scheduling conflicts between travel/intramural games. Travel teams will typically play an 18 game season starting in mid November and ending in mid March 2015. Teams will generally practice once a week. GCAA usually puts together two or three teams per grade subject to adequate demand and available coaching. See a separate article about the GCAA Intramural program in this edition of the GC News. Boys 6th grade and under and girls 5th grade and under are required to play intramurals if they make a travel team. Boys 7th grade and older and girls 6th grade and older are strongly encouraged to play although there is no requirement to do so.

For 4-5-6 Girls, we will consider starting the travel season in January in order to avoid CYO conflicts if there is an interest in doing so.
