GHYLA 2014-2015 pre-season board meeting

September 16, 2014 – 06:30 PM

Mark your calendars.  The GHYLA pre-season board of directors meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, from 6:30-8:30 PM.  Glenn has secured the large street-level auditorium inside the lobby of the Wells Fargo building downtown.  The address is: Wells Fargo Plaza, 1000 Louisiana Street, Houston, TX  77002.

Two important proposals will be discussed and voted upon at the 9/16 meeting:

Motion #1 (“Change the size of the U11 field and player complement for the 4U division”) – The U11 (aka 4U) division currently uses the reduced-size field (35 yds x 60 yds) and 7v7 play.  The proposal is to: (a) Switch the U11 division to the full-sized field and 10v10 play, or (b) Permit 4U teams to opt to play 10v10 as its own Division, or (c) Switch the U11 division to a reduced (75%) field and 10v10 play.

Motion #2 (“Eliminate academic grade level from the player eligibility requirements for the various GHYLA playing divisions”) – GHYLA has traditionally used academic grade level as part of its criteria for player eligibility (i.e., 8th grade, 7th grade, 5-6 grade, 3-4 grade, and 1-2 grade).  The US Lacrosse Rules call for the use of only the player’s age to determine player eligibility.  The proposal is to adopt the US Lacrosse Youth Rules 100% and eliminate the local GHYLA exception to include academic grade level in the requirements for player eligibility in a particular playing division (i.e., use strict U15, U13, U11, and U9 playing divisions.)

Reminders: Each GHYLA team is required by the GHYLA Bylaws to send a voting member to the meeting.  Jim Warner of Clear Lake has graciously volunteered for the position of GHYLA Secretary.  No one else has volunteered, but the board of directors must vote to elect GHYLA officers.  Cheers.  Tim Bohdan (Acting Secretary, on behalf of the GHYLA Executive Committee).
