BOATER SAFETY CLASSES FOR YOUTH OFFERED
This is a reminder that Wisconsin boating safety certification or out of state equivalent certification is REQUIRED for operators of motorboats born on or after January 1, 1989 and at least 16 years of age. This certification is earned by completing and passing a DNR-approved boating safety class. Once obtained, it is good for life. While four states have no safety class requirements, the Wisconsin certification is recognized by the other forty six states in the U.S. which have similar requirements.
For anyone under the age of sixteen, the following apply:
a) Children 12 to 15 years of age may operate a motorboat alone if they have earned a boating safety certificate. If not, there must be an adult onboard while they are operating.
b) Children 10 and 11 years old may operate a motorboat only if a responsible adult is onboard. Anyone 10 or 11 years of age is eligible to take the class and receive a safety education completion certificate, but the certificate does not become valid until the child reaches 12 years of age.
c) Children under the age of 10 may not operate a motorboat, even with adult supervision.
Information about local boating safety classes can be found on the DNR website at https://gowild.wi.gov/ or by calling the Eau Claire DNR Service Center at 715-839-3700.
There are three three-day classes currently scheduled to be held at the Lafayette Town Hall. Dates and times are:
March 20-22, 2018 (6PM – 9PM)
May 22 – 24, 2018 (6PM – 9PM)
June 20 – 22, 2018 (9AM - Noon)
For more information, or to register for any of these classes, call me, John Swenson at 715-828-2514.

LAFAYETTE--HAVE FUN AND LEARN THE FUNDAMENTALS
Have fun and learn the fundamentals—it’s really pretty simple here at Lafayette. We strive to offer a great place to introduce your child to the fun and exciting world of team sports. Our programs are specially designed to offer all kids a chance to learn and play organized youth sports. Games and practices are set up so players can learn and grow while having a good time with their friends and classmates. Coaching and competition is kept positive so kids are motivated to learn and work together—important assets for all youth as they grow and develop.
Parents can also have fun! We cover concessions duties so parents can watch, cheer, or coach their kid’s team. You won't find mandatory $100 'concession shift deposits’ or ‘extra $50 non-worker fees’ here. Our concessions are run exclusively by youth where they can get a chance to learn job duties, work commitment, and customer service. So parents, you too can 'recreate' at Lafayette, a great place where you can enjoy coaching and cheering on the kids with friends and neighbors.
No matter which town or community you are from, all are welcome join us at Lafayette Parks & Recreation. Hope to see you on the fields soon!
