Travel League: Important Information

In the past we have had open indoor practices beginning in November and going through the end of February and held evaluations and selected teams in early March.  This year we are moving evaluations to December.  One reason is to allow the actual teams to practice together.  Another is this will allow us to place our uniform order earlier.

Here are the dates for the evaluations

U-14 (born between 1/1/2002 and 12/31/2003)

Fielding/running: Sunday December 11th @ 9:30 AM

Batting: Sunday December 18th @ 9:30 AM

U-12(born between 1/1/2004 and 12/31/2005)

Fielding/Running: Friday December 9th @ 7:30 PM

Batting: Friday December 16th @ 7:30 PM

U-10 (Born after 1/1/2006)

Fielding/Running: Friday December 9th @ 6:00 PM

Batting: Friday December 16th @ 6:00 PM

All evaluations will be held in the Davidson Gym at Elwyn School. The easiest way to get to the Davidson Gym is to enter from Baltimore Pike at the new traffic light (School Lane).  When you come to the stop sign turn left.  Almost immediately you will have to make a decision to go right or left.  Bear right.  Go over two speed bumps.  Turn right onto the first driveway after the speed bumps.  You will be going up a ramp-like drive way.  You are now in the parking lot of the gym.

In order to play travel in the spring players must attend 2 evaluations.  If you cannot attend the correct age group please contact me and we can get your daughter in to another time slot

Registration will not begin until sometime in January so you do not need to make the financial commitment until after the holidays.  However, if you are at evaluations we are expecting that your daughter will be playing travel in the spring.  Please be sure you and your daughter(s) are willing to commit to the time (both weekly and length of season) for the spring.  Once we make teams we do not want to have to change them due to players dropping out.

MAGS in the Media Santa Parade 11/27/2016, 5:00PM!

Hello MAGS Families and Friends!

Media Area Girls Softball is going to be part of Santa Parade and Fun Run/Walk on Sunday November 27th! It's a fun, music & lights filled parade that draws a huge crowd. We will be passing out candy canes & postcards to everyone as we walk - and we'll be led by our decked out, festive golf cart!  We need everyone walking with us to gather by 4:30pm at Barrall Field. The parade starts at 5pm. We will be enroute with Santa and the Mummers...so make sure to wear your festive attire along with your MAGS gear! The more festive the better!  Also - no obligation - but we will be collecting food for Media Food Bank, and gifts for Toys for Tots.

This is a much needed chance for us to promote the league to the community, as well as have a lot of fun and give back. We know it's a busy post holiday weekend, but we are hoping for a few players from each team to join us. If you prefer to walk with your child, you're welcome to! Please let us know if you are planning to join in!  You can RSVP through the event on our Facebook page or by sending an email back to mediagirlssoftball@gmail.com.  You can just show up too, but we would like to get an idea of how many girls we will have.

Thanks and hope to see you all there!

Fall Ball is Here

Once again it is time for Fall Ball.  As many of you know fall ball is a more laid back version of our spring travel season.   We will practice one night a week and have one (possibly two) games on the weekends.  The games do not have the same restrictions.  Batting order is simply everyone who shows up, we have free substitutions and we can stop and correct mistakes on the field. It really is a time to teach and focus on growth.

Practices will start the week of August 29th and games will start the 2nd weekend of September (9th thru 11th). The season will end either the last weekend in October or the first weekend in November

Here is the second way it is different: Registration is only $20.

To register your daughter please send an email to matt.broomall@mediasoftball.org with your daughters name and birthday (one other note: we try and place players in the age group they would play in next spring).

Registration deadline is Sunday August 21st.

Unified Game Wednesday June 15, 2016

The date for the Unified game was Wednesday, June 15th.  Girls who are in Intermediate and Senior intramural, and 12U and 14U travel are eligible to play.

This game is where we match up with kids from the Elwyn school and help them to field, hit and run the bases.  This is a great way to give back to the community and it is a great experience for our kids.  We have been doing this for many years and the girls love it.  They enjoy helping and getting to know the player they get matched up with.

2016 Travel All Stars

The DelVal Fast Pitch All Star games were held on Saturday, June 4.  Two players from each MAGS Travel division were selected to play, which included 10U, 12U and 14U teams.  Congratulations to our All Stars!

We also collected food for Media Food Bank, and gifts for Toys for Tots.

MAGS Travel Indoor Clinics

Once again,  Media Area Girls Softball will be holding our weekly indoor clinics for any player interested in playing travel in the spring.  The clinics are designed to teach or reinforce fundamentals and as we progress through the winter to work on more advanced skills.  This year we will also have a stronger focus on batting than we have in the past.   We alternate weekly between batting and fielding throughout the winter.

The times and age groups are as follows

Pee Wee (U-10): Born after 1/1/2005

Friday 6 PM to 7:30PM

Clinics start on Friday November 6th.

Midget (U-12): Born between 1/1/2003 and 12/31/2004

Friday 7:30 PM to 9PM

Clinics start on Friday November 6th

Intermediate: Born Between 1/1/01 and 12/31/2002

Sunday 9:30 AM to 11 AM

Begin Sunday November 8th.

Please note: Please feel free to attend a different clinic time that better suits your schedule if the need be.  But please only attend a session that is one age group up or down from your child's actual age group.  It would not be useful for a U-10 player to attend the U-14 clinic and vice versa.

The sessions are held in the Elwyn Education Center Gym.  See the map associated with the following link http://www.elwyn.org/images/uploads/ElwynMapFin_2.pdf.  The Education Center is building 27 on the map.  The parking lot is exactly where the words, "Education Ctr" appear on the map.  Please note: This is NOT the gym in the Zier Recreation Center with the carpet on the gym floor where Rose Tree Soccer has their winter soccer program.

THERE IS NO COST FOR THESE CLINICS!!!  The intent of the clinics is to prepare our players for the spring season. There is no obligation to play travel softball in the Spring if you participate.

The girls should bring their gloves, face masks, helmets, bats, and a water bottle.  They should wear sneakers.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the clinics.

Thank you for your continued support of our organization.

Vice President- Travel Division

Fastpitch Pitching Clinic

In addition to our indoor clinics this winter we will again be holding our Indoor pitching clinics.  Again this year our pitching instructor will be Stephanie D'Ortone

The clinic will be held on Sunday mornings from 11 AM to 12 PM.  The clinic will be split into 2 sessions.

11 AM to 11:30 AM- Advanced Pitching clinic

This session will be for players who have been pitching for more than 2 years.  This will allow for more instruction in minor mechanical issues, more advanced training techniques and learning new pitches.

11:30 AM to 12 PM-Beginner/Novice Pitching Clinic

This will be for players who have 1 year of experience or are just starting out.  The clinic will stress the fundamentals of pitching.

Cost:  $10 per session

Location: The sessions are held in the Elwyn Education Center Gym.

PITCHERS MUST BRING THEIR OWN CATCHER!!! It can be a parent, older sibling, or friend.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you for your support of our players and organization.

2015 Fall Ball Recap

The 14U fall ball team had a terrific season.  We started off 1-3 but went 4-1 in the second half to finish above .500 (5-4).

The goal of fall ball is to use game situations to practice and improve for the coming season – which we did effectively.  We made sure everyone got an approximately equal amount of playing time, and everyone got some innings in the infield.

Media Intermediates Win Delval Season-Ending Tournament!

We entered a team in the in the Intermediate Division (14 and under) Del Val League Season Ending Tournament this weekend.  The team was made up of players from both our 14U teams and 2 12U players and was coached by Art Whittemore, who was the driving force for putting a team in.

Saturday was a round robin format with the team going 1-1.  Both games were decided by 1 run.  Sunday morning the team beat a good Prospect Park team, again winning by 1 run.  In the championship game, they faced a Ridley team that was basically an All Star team from a few of the different organizations in Ridley.  Once again our team pulled out another one run win.

It was another great showing for our girls, who have now won the 2 Del Val tournaments this year.  And a big thank you to the coaches.  Art Whittemore put a lot of time into this weekend and really set the girls up for success.  Also thanks to Matt Broomall, Jeff Morris (in his final MAGS games), Erik Pasnak and Peter Mroz for their help coaching this weekend.

Travel Team (Fast Pitch) Winter Clinics at Elwyn

MAGS will be holding weekly practices through the winter for all girls interested in joining one of the fast pitch Travel Teams this spring.  The travel teams play other towns throughout Delaware County.

Practices times will be held based on the age group your daughter would play in in the spring:

U-10 (BIRTHDAY IS AFTER 12/31/2003): FRIDAY  6:00 pm TO 7:30 pm

We will start with the basics(fielding, throwing, hitting) and work our way up to some advanced skills.  We also incorporate fun activities at each practice.

U-12 (BORN BETWEEN 1/1/2002 AND 12/31/2003): FRIDAY 7:30 pm TO 9:00 pm

Reinforce and build upon skills to develop better knowledge of what to do based on game situations (bunting, stealing, making the smart play in the field).

U-14 (BORN BETWEEN 1/1/2000 AND 12/31/2001): SUNDAY 9:30 am TO 11:00 am

Advanced skills in all aspects of the game

The practices are run by the travel team coaches and are completely FREE.  They are also optional.  However, we have found that those who attend the practices are better prepared for the spring than those who do not attend. The practices are also a great way for the girls to get to know each other and develop a team spirit.

Practices are held in the Davidson gym at Elwyn School.  Click here for directions.
