MIBL 2009 annual year end meeting

The MIBL year end meeting took place on November 6th, 2009 in Bedford.

The 2010 MIBL Executive was decided without a single vote cast, as all the positions were filled by acclimation. The MIBL positions for the 2010 season are as follows:

    President - Phil Mintern (Dartmouth)

Vice President - Davey Somerton (Cole Harbour)

    SecretaryDan Paquin (Sackville)

    Non-voting positions:

    Treasurer - Jacob Muise

Web Master / League Statistician - Dennis Delorey

The MIBL teams represented were Dartmouth, Cole Harbour, Halifax, Sackville and Spryfield.

    Absent: Woodside and Eastern Passage.

    MIBL 2009 award winners

The MIBL Board voted on the 2009 League awards at the annual year end meeting.

    MVP - Shaun Penny (Woodside)

Top Pitcher - Aaron McKinley (Dartmouth)

Top Hitter - Dennis Delorey (Woodside)

McKinley claimed top pitcher for the second year in a row while Penny and Delorey claimed their first MIBL awards.

    Congratulations to everyone nominated.

    Dartmouth Drillers are MIBL Champions…again!!

The Dartmouth Drillers repeated as MIBL Champions after defeating the Cole Harbour Cardinals 4-1 Thursday night at Beazley field in Dartmouth.

Dartmouth’s Aaron McKinley pitched 4 scoreless innings before giving way to Mike Butler, who held the Cardinals to 1 run over the final 3 innings. Although Cole Harbour threatened in a few different innings, Driller pitching found a way to keep all but 1 base runner from crossing the plate. Cole Harbour’s Davey Somerton took the loss for the Cardinals despite pitching a complete game allowing 4 runs (1 earned) on 7 hits and no walks. The Drillers repeat is the second time an MIBL team has defended their title, the first time the Eastern Passage Pirates (formally Sharks) won in 2006 and then again in 2007.

The win concludes the 2009 season, during which the Drillers were undefeated against all MIBL intermediate teams. The Drillers only defeat came against Dartmouth AAA Jr.’s on July 21st.

The loss marked the second time the Cardinals came up short in the MIBL championship game and the second time this year as the Cardinals lost to Spryfield in the Intermediate ‘A’ Provincial finals on Sept 6th.
