Dartmouth Drillers are MIBL Champions…again!!
The Dartmouth Drillers repeated as MIBL Champions after
defeating the Cole Harbour Cardinals 4-1 Thursday night at Beazley field in
Dartmouth.
Dartmouth’s Aaron McKinley pitched 4 scoreless innings
before giving way to Mike Butler, who held the Cardinals to 1 run over the
final 3 innings. Although Cole Harbour
threatened in a few different innings, Driller pitching found a way to keep all
but 1 base runner from crossing the plate. Cole Harbour’s Davey Somerton took
the loss for the Cardinals despite pitching a complete game allowing 4 runs (1
earned) on 7 hits and no walks. The
Drillers repeat is the second time an MIBL team has defended their title, the
first time the Eastern Passage Pirates (formally Sharks) won in 2006 and then
again in 2007.
The win concludes the 2009 season, during which the Drillers
were undefeated against all MIBL intermediate teams. The Drillers only defeat
came against Dartmouth AAA Jr.’s on July 21st.
The loss marked the second time the Cardinals came up short
in the MIBL championship game and the second time this year as the Cardinals
lost to Spryfield in the Intermediate ‘A’ Provincial finals on Sept 6th.
