2014 Summer Games Update

Over the weekend of August 7-10th the Sun Parlour Baseball Team participated in the Ontario Summer Games experience in Windsor.  The team had a great deal of success competing against 11 other baseball centers from across Ontario.
On Friday the team played 3 games:
Win against SCBA 3-2
Win against WCBA 9-3
Loss against YSBA 7-4
After Friday's games the team needed Saturday wins against undefeated EOBA and LDBA to ensure a spot in the medal rounds on Sunday.  The boys took the pressure in stride and beat the EOBA team 13-1.  They followed that up with a 9-3 win over the London team.
The victories over Eastern Ontario and London gave the team a 4-1 record and 1st place in pool play.  Eastern Ontario advanced after SCBA beat YSBA on Saturday afternoon.  COBA and TBA advanced in the other pool.
Sunday's 1st game matched our team against the powerful Toronto team.  We got off to a rough start but our starting pitcher caught his breath and pitched a great game.  The defense shined and the offense scratched together a few runs.  The game went into extra innings and in the top of the 9th Toronto scored a run and our boys lost the semi final game 4-3.
The bronze medal game was against the COBA team made up of players from the Mississauga, Burlington, Brampton, Oakville area.  The team fought to the end but left the bases loaded in the final inning and lost 13-12.
The Gold medal winner was the EOBA team.
On behalf of the coaching staff I would like to thank all of the players and their families for representing our association with a great deal of class.  You left everything you had on the diamond, you played for your teammates and you made us proud.
I would also like to thank all of the players, coaches and evaluators that attended tryouts.  The selection process was made very difficult because of the amount of talented players to chose from.  Not only do we have talented players but we have dedicated and knowledgeable coaches that give their best to help our players succeed.
Windsor and Essex county has a tremendous tradition of baseball excellence.  Our sport of baseball is alive and thriving.
Thank you for a tremendous baseball experience.

International Children's Games Update

The SunParlour International Childrens Game Team came away with a silver medal in the competition. They lost 3-2 to the team from Detroit in the exciting gold medal game. The team played great and had a wonderful experience meeting athletes from all over the world. They were undefeated going into the gold medal game but fell just short. Special thanks to Bill Kell for the great job he did in coordinating the baseball competition and to the many volunteers and grounds crews for taking care of the players and for making the ball parks world class. A special thanks to Transit Windsor for all of the hard work and dedication they showed in transporting not only the ball team but all of the athletes to the many venues featured in the games. The Sunparlour players were great hosts and stayed behind after every game to sign autographs and give time to media, other competators and to the many fans that showed their support to the team. We should all be proud of them. Well done.
Coach Glenn
