This morning was an absolute disgrace. In the first game, Blue had 4 guys and Gold had 6- for the third week in a row. In the second game, Green had 7 guys- 6 of which didn't know if their coach/ QB was even showing up. They were left with Cresto and Dylan to play QB and left to get their asses kicked. Then, the third game started early because Green had quit when they were down 40-0, and Nathan and Ray missed the begginning of a crucial game.

How did we get to this point? WHen did guys stop caring? Since when would guys not show up because they were "tired"? If you'd EVER rather sleep then show up to play football, then the CFL is not for you. If you don't care enough to call your coach when you can't make it, then walk away, we'll find guys who do care. Missing games is NOT OKAY. And if you won't show up because you think you're going to lose, then don't bother coming back next year. I know its tough to go out and get your ass kicked but have some pride. Its still football. Have some pride and come out and compete. This league is what it is because guys LOVE to play football on Sunday mornings. Not because guys LIKE to play if they are on a winning team and the weather is right and they have the late game. This league gives us a chance to play football. And if you can't commit 100%, find another league with other guys who don't care. I know there are times when you can't make, but call your coach and let him know so he can prepare accordingly. Don't just sleep through the game and apologize afterwards.

And coaches, it is our job to make sure our team is going to be on that field at gametime every single week. If for some reason you can't make it, then call your team and help them prepare. DOn't hang them out to dry. Players will play hard for a coach that plays hard every game. It is our responsibility to give our teams a chance to go out and compete. We aren't just coaches when we are winning. We committed to coaching these teams every single week and that committment needs to be honored whether we are 8-0 or 0-8. Last year AT's team was 1-9 but they still showed up and played hard because their coach played every play like it was his last. I've had guys ask me the day before a game if their coach is going to show up. I had people asking me today if the Blue vs. Green game was even going to be played next week. I hope so, but its those guys' last chance to play for a while. We need to figure out who on our teams don't care enough to show up or to call and toss them. The success of this league is dependent on our leadership.

The CFL has taken a major step backwards this year and we are all to blame. But its not too late to turn this thing around. We are getting ready to have one of the most competitive playoffs in a while, and we need to hype it up. We have a 27 year-old tradition on our shoulders and we can improve it, or let it slip. If this league is important, then come every week and play hard, and encourage your teammates to do the same. Don't drop the ball.

To answer your question of how did we get to this point? That's simple. We as the coaches of the CFL decided before the season that it would be better to keep the league exactly the same even when we knew that there would not be parity. This is the result. Nobody cares. Nobody stays to watch games. Nobody is showing up at the end of the season to play in meaningless games.
The bottom line is that the league is not competitive. We can make a lot of excuses as to why but that's not what matters. What does matter is that whether a player is on a winning team, or a losing one, it is just not as much fun because it's not competitive. If anyone thinks this is only coming from someone who is 0-9 you are wrong. I have spoken to a few players about the status of the league and they share this same opinion.
Make no mistake about it, I love playing football and I love playing in the CFL. But, I do not think we as coaches and organizers of the CFL did the league justice by playing this season without making any changes to the league.

P.S. I know that it is the coaches job to field a team but all I can do is text, email, call and make sure that guys are gonna be at the game. I was at the field along with four other guys at 8 am ready to play. I not going to anybodys house to drag them out of bed. When guys say they are gonna be there they should be there. You say maybe we should just get rid of those guys??? Maybe...but i think we would be cutting it back to about four teams...if we were lucky!

We couldn't change the league around because of bad coaching decisions by a few guys. We committed to three years and we stuck it out instead of letting people off the hook for making stupid moves.

Karl, Roy, and I had good teams coming into the season. Why should we have been punished? AT was horrible last year, but made a few moves and turned things around. Bob wanted to play QB but that didn't work out. And Brian protected JR instead of Pete and was decimated by injuries. And even then, Blue lost on the last drive of the game to White and the last play of the game to Gold. Parity is not the issue at all. If there is anyone on Gold, Black, Red, or White that doesn't think they have a chance to win the Chy Cup then they should quit right now because they themselves are losers.

I agree that this has been one of the worst seasons in recent memory. But I also think that the previous two had been two of the best as far as competitivness and the amount of talented players. I think these playoffs are going to unreal because there are four really good teams. I hope the league shows its support and we can carry it into next year.

This is Marcus Yono from green.

As a rookie, I don't know how well my thoughts and opinions will be received, but I'm going to voice them anyway. I went into this season with a serious attitude and a commitment to winning. Unfortunately I was one of the few. I'll try to stay away from the specifics of whats wrong with my team as our problems correlate with the problems of the league.

I woke up Sunday morning feeling a little silly. I felt silly knowing that I should be at work but I was paying someone overtime to take my place while I went and got my ass handed to me for an hour. I seriously contemplated not showing up and just going to work. It wasn't until the last second that I decided that I made this commitment and I'm going to honor it. Until yesterday, I have never in my life gone into a sporting event KNOWING that I was going to lose. Of course I love to play footbal sunday mornings, but I'd also like to know that all of my teammates are on the same page and that we share a common goal of winning. Sure you are supposed to have fun, but how fun is it to get destroyed week in and out and not even have a chance after halftime? It was a sick feeling. On the other end of the spectrum, it was nice to see before the game that White was taking the game seriously and for that fact alone Green should have done the same. I'm not here to decide whether or not we did that, but if that was our best effort then maybe we do deserve a 1-8 record. I do give credit to the guys that were there because for the most part those were the same 7 guys that have been there all season. It's been pretty embarrassing to go through a season like this. I'd like to say that we at least tried hard every game but I'm afraid I'd be lying.

I give a lot of credit to the guys who do show up on blue. I've watched all season as they fought and taken a lot of teams to the brink. It was just a couple of weeks ago that they were about a foot away from ending white's perfect season.

I won't get into the impact that gambling can have on a sport, but I'll just assume that kind of stuff doesn't go on in this league.

With all that said, I'm glad to see that some of the heads of the league recognize that there is in fact a problem. There is little doubt in my mind that you will get this ship righted and we can continue to have a fair, competitive, and successful league.

P.S. I'm the one who made the post about Kejbou being a product of the system. I only said it because he is always talking shit and nobody ever says anything back. I figured I would stir things up a bit.

Joey I agree with Tucker rules can be changed and especially if its gonna better the league. Its a shame that players have to suffer and be on a unbalanced team cause a coach may make a poor decision weather it by by drafting or trading... thats not fair for the players who want to compete at the highest level and want to win but cannot because of a lob sided unbalanced team. Maybe coaches (more than 1) should collectivly ok or reject a trade, I dont know just a thought.

Next year changes need to be made and also drafting needs to be addressed cause its not fair when you have a 1st round coach and a 3rd round coach drafting equally, and I mean no disrespect to any coaches, but it is what it is.

The way we did it in the indoor league worked out well may be we should try it.

One thing i do agree is that we should have one hell of a playoffs this year!!!

We need to make sure that everyone in the CFL is competing, having fun and playing their ass off week in and week out.

This is to try and limit the bad coaching decisions and keep the league very competitive, although injuries do play a role in this also.....and for the most part the coaches do a pretty good job coaching

with no disrespect to anyone who creates the rules, i submit a few suggestions / modifications to current issues / rules that will improve our league:

-no trades after week 3

-majority vote approval by coaches on trades made (i.e. jr kizy for nolan karummi)

-if a coach is a 1st round player, he should not be able to select a 1st round player if the other coaches would be 3rd, 4th or 5th round picks.

-3 year protection rule should be dropped. eliminates possibilities, excitment & a chance to play with new talent each year.

-if a team should forefit a game, the forefiture should be a loss much greater than the current 0-6 indicates. it should be a margin enough to guarantee that the winning team wins that heads up match; should that possibility occur.

-we should probably consider dropping the league to 5 teams. if we don't have enough natural quaterbacks stepping up, other teams have a very small chance to compete.

consider if russ or jr kizy retires at the end of this year & chris zeer opts to never play quaterback again. where does that leave the league in terms of natural quaterbacks? 2, maybe 3?

i'm all for expansion & adding new talent & skill, but we need to be proactive about this now. maybe be need to recruit players into the league we know will be on time, commit to a team no matter what, make sure they bring their cleates to the game, etc...

just a few thoughts...

a few of us have made these comments to each other, some think about them & others may not care. but most of us do. most of us want to see this league return to its no-nonsense attitude.

I agree any team can beat any other team on any given sunday (thats a movie by the way). But, my point is that I think we made a mistake a few years back and it's not like this is the NFL. We can make decisions and changes to the league whenever and however we see fit. In fact, my rookie year I was on team blue with Russ, Kevin D., Chuck, Bobby, and me...we won the championship and probably could have won a few more but the coaches decided that it was not in the best interest of the league and they redrafted.
Anyway, I don't want to deviate from the point which is that the whole league is affected by the changes or lack of changes in this case. I want to stress that players on teams, both good and bad are affected by this lack of parity in the CFL. Take it for what its worth.

AT, have you booked your off season vacation tickets yet? Just think, while White and the winner of the black/gold playoff game are playing for the chai cup on November 11th out in the rain/snow/15 degree weather, you will be completely free to enjoy the nice South Beach environment with Bob who will already have been there for 3 months.

That nice setting will give you a nice retrieve and free time to forget about white beating you two straight weeks, or for the 8th time in 3 years, two of which were playoff eliminations.

I don’t want to get into specifics, nor do I feel that I need to justify the fact that I missed a pointless game 9.

I don’t agree with changing the rules of the CFL... It’s been a certain way for a long time and it has worked... Although I do feel that promoting a Rookie Try out day on an actual Sunday opposed to a Saturday would help the league out.... I am not sure how many people we had Retire this year, but I was surprised at the level of talent that we had to stoop to in order to fulfill a 10 MAN roster.

Also it would help if we actually told people about tryouts.... HMMMMMMM what do you think about that JOEY J.

I would love to get into why I didn’t show up, but I will pass.
