Chy Cup 2008- RED VS. YELLOW Ask and you shall receive. We asked for a Red vs. Yellow championship and we got it. Yellow storms into the championship game after thwarting Black in round one. And Red comes into this game after beating Green in one of best, most action packed, emotional game in CFL history. The Red vs Yellow rivalry has been going on for a couple of years now but it all came to a head when Yellow's "strategy" to avoid playing Red in the first round was certainly questionable at the very least. Smack talking ensued between the coaches and a genuine on-the-field hatred was born. Does Red own Yellow like AT says? Has Yellow been saving its best for last like Nate says? Can AT get that elusive coaching title? Can Nate overcome the roller coaster that Yellow has been through this season. We will find out Saturday night at West Bloomfield. I for one can't wait. Yellow Offense: Natham Karrumi is the coach and backbone of this squad. When he is on, they are VERY tough to stop. However, it should be noted that this team has won games when he has not played well and that is a tribute to his leadership. He will run 7-10 times but more often than not he'll use his freakish escape ability to buy time and hit one of his many weapons on a deep route. He was dominant (and lucky) in his last Chy Cup game. He has made clutch plays all season. Red will more than likely try to contain him in the pocket and beat them with his arm. But he has thrown the ball well this year so pick your poison. The Yellow receiving core of Anthony Ocho Acho, Tim Acho, Ray Loussia, and Branden Yono has been the best in the league this season. Ocho has been the most consistent and will make all the plays. Tim was spectacular in the first round of the playoffs and has a scary combination of size, speed, and leaping ability. And Ray Loussia and Branden Yono will find holes in the D and find the end zone at least once between them. Yellow's blockers will be a combination of Derek, Sinan, and Justin. All three are solid blockers who are factors in the passing game as well. Derek was a beast in the first round and needs a repeat performance against a very tough Red rush. Red Offense: Tarik Kama is the catalyst in the Red offense. They go how he goes. The Red offense has been potent this year but they have the ability to be flat out dominant when Tarik is on. He is at his best when the short stuff is working for him. He spreads the ball around very well making it tough to defend them. And he is explosive running the ball, but his run plays are few and far between. He will take deep shots to Ray and M.V.Pete and connect on at least a couple. And, as usual, Brian Najor will be a primary target from the blocker spot. Ray, AT, M.V.Pete, Mike Toma, and Mike Zeer will all catch passes for Red depending on the situation. Ray is just Ray and he will be a factor like always. AT, Mike Toma, and Zeerco will not make mistakes. But Pete has been spectacular this season and there is no reason to think that Saturday will be any different. Bruce Toma and Scotty George will be protecting Tarik alongside Brian. Yellow's rush will be plenty for them to handle but they've been consistently good all season. Yellow Defense: Yellow's D is extremely athletic and opportunistic. But they're going to need more than that to win this game. Their offense has been unstoppable but their D has been vulnerable at times. Defensive Coordinator Nick Ammori overcame league wide criticism with a stellar performance in round 1, but this is the big stage and Red is very balanced. If Yellow can avoid the mental mistakes, they should be able to keep Red in check. Nate, the Achos, and Ray Loussia will patrol the last line of defense. Nick Ammori and Marvin Yeldo will be working the middle and Derek, Sinan, and Hulk will be applying the heat. Red Defense: Red's D is their best attribute. AT's ability, although unorthodox at times, just works. He will show Nate multiple looks and he's the best at the in-game adjustments. The defense is anchored by him and Ray down the middle at LB and Safety. M.V.Pete has been lockdown on the corner and Mike Toma is always steady opposite him. Zeerco will help at LB. And Brian Najor and Scotty George have been very tough on opposing QB's. Scotty is unblockable at times and he brings it 110% on every single down. All in all this should be a classic. There are many story lines to go along with a game that premiers the league's top two teams. This one will come down to who can avoid turning the ball over. Red seems to start every game fast and Yellow is more known for their finishes. Both teams have playmakers and clutch players. Saturday can't come soon enough. See you then!!
