I was in touch with some influential people over the past weeks about a return to the S. Shore and surrounding area to implement a hooked on phonics program for the players and fans of the CEL whom have difficulty putting key to forum.
Unfortunately the move didn't make economic sense so that plan died on the table.
So I see jack was missing myself and Wartsy's literary prowlness, and I mean who wouldn't, right Warted one?
I have no info about the 08-09 season of the CEL so I will just have to give an update about Big Phil' status. The following article was in the November 3oth edition of the Cold Lake Chronicle.

After signing a work contract that brought him up to the Cold Lake region, the Big one had come to terms with the end of his CEL career and perhaps his Hockey Career. SO after catchin' his first fish and shootin his first gun in Alberta, Philip began to think about a comeback. But that was soon forgotten about when he realized that that it was still August and that water don't freeze in + 30 weather. So after a couple of months of non-stop work and oil producin', the Big Guy returned to the Rock for the Glennifer wedding, where he took in a senior game at the Southern Shore Arena. So after breathing in the fumes of the Zamboni and watchin the DTK float around the defense like a leaf in the wind, he got the feel of ice in his blood and knew he had to bring some respect back to the brotherhood of defensemen.
So when he returned to Cold Lake he began to take offers from several suitors. Not wanting to make a rash decision or not be in game shape, he headed south to California with his good friend Mats. After listening to Mats whine about his situation, Phil decided to accept an off from the Vultures of the Cold Lake "C" League. Phillipe signed a one year deal with an option on the second year. Phil was quoted as saying
" Making the move from the CEL is a step in the right direction where my physical stature and passion for the game will be appreciated more then when I played in the CEL."
The new league in which Big Phil makes his debut on Monday night, is of higher calibre players that care about the game, and where slapshots and fighting are welcomed. Looks like this al' "I'll eat ya Vincie" Dog has finally found a place where he can become Champion.

Best of luck on your quest for the cup Big Phil. If you need a blueliner with a hacking stick for the playoffs, I just may come out of retirement. Have a good one.

Good to see your getting back on the ice Big Phil. I just hope you told your new teammates about the curse you put on teams you play for. After all you are winless in 2008. Good thing a new year is around the corner!

Well DTK, I have yet to play in a vulture uniform, but I did make my debut with the team last night in the second game of Hockey Night in Cold Lake in a "Big Phil custom jersey".
The night started out with some confusion, as a teammate told the Big One the game was in the Cold Lake South Arena, when in actual fact it was in the Cold Lake North arena. But this little misunderstanding was NE-GATED when I stepped on the ice @ 9pm Cold Lake Standard time. Amidst looks of amazment and awe, I shook the rust off in the first period, and won over the hearts of my new teammates when I blocked a shot with my ankle as I got stick to the lip. I just said, "thats what I learned in the CEL boys, that win at all costs attitude."
After battlin' back donnie dumphy style from a Four goal deficit, its was not meant to be as the Flyers got a pp goal in the last 3 minutes of the game.
Stay tuned for Wednesday night's update when the Vultures take on the Hawks.

Again and Always,

BIg Phil

I'm awaiting the report from last night's game Big Phil. I've been hoping for some chatter from the CEL but all is quiet. ( must be waiting for Santa... not a creature was writing ) Anyway I've turned my interest to BP and his new northern assignment. I guess it's like leaving the NHL for a European assignment. My only concern is for his Vulture teammates. Do they know of the curse that the big guy carries on them big shoulders ? Maybe a new league is just what's needed to get a championship under his belt and come back next year to lead his own team in the CEL. I can only imagine the chuckles that Clubber and DTK are getting as they digest that one. Anyway big guy, I'm looking forward to your report and hope you've got the Vultures under your wing. After all, I'm starved for hockey news here in Africa . Not much talk of icetime here.
Have a safe and happy holiday season.
All the best
Wartsy
