A tip of the hat to 81 year old Hershel McGriff, who competed in the NASCAR West Series race yesterday in Portland...He became the oldest driver to compete in a NASCAR touring series race

What was cool about this was that it was no publicity stunt, where he took a few laps and pulled in...McGriff raced, finishing 13th and on the lead lap...I wonder if anyone in the national racing media will pick up on the irony that his first race, in 1945, was also in Portland and he also finished 13th

McGriff finished in the top ten in the first Southern 500 NASCAR race at Darlington in 1950...His driving career now spans 65 years and seven decades...If he would drive next year, it would be an unbelivable 8 decades

Does anyone know of anyone older than McGriff that competed in a sanctioned series feature event?...How old was Paul Newman when he last ran in an SCCA or other road racing pro series?...In his 80's?

Ok for him as he runs on pavement. Not many 81 year olds running on dirt?
