| A little history lesson and player profile by Anthony Toma
The Chaldean Football League is a flag football league played by Chaldeans for Chaldeans, not to be confused with FUBU, although… until the recent rule change, used to the FU league.
The CFL is smash mouth flag football at its finest. The Chy Cup is a special trophy, well actually it’s much more than a trophy, it’s THEE STATUS SYMBOL of our community today, and some would argue that it rivals the IROC-Z in the early 80’s.
To understand the significance of having your name engraved on the Chy Cup you have to understand the players. Here is a look at the players that make up the two best teams playing for the honor or 2010 CFL Champions!
First Green
Tony Attisha Coach (Posterizer)
He has willed his teams with big plays at the right time over and over and over, over the years. He might look lazy out there, but don’t fall for it, it’s a set up. Pick 6 if you do. I can name 50 times Tony Posterized guys on my teams alone.
Justin (Beaber) Orow
Although Justin was traded by coach/gm Tony, he is lucky to have him back. Justin has played QB and has been the MVP of the Green team since day one, doing anything and everything to keep to dream alive.
Sinan Abdal (Survivor)
Not many people know this and I’m not sure I have the right to bring this to light but, I’m going to anyway. Sinan was one of the dogs that survived Michael Vick’s dog fighting ring, he was 49 and O when the raid on the kennel happened. He cried when the FBI and they weren’t tears of joy, he wanted to stay and fight some more. Anyway, all is well because he found the CFL and beat the dog ship out of Vick like Tarik to advance to the big dance. Secretly he fears the FBI may step in before Saturday night and dash his dreams once again.
Anthony (lil a) Yaldo
Broken foot and all, what can you say about the size of this kid’s heart? Best pound for pound player in the world.
Mike Zeer (talks it up, more important, backs it up)
I don’t know where he got the moves or the speed from, but he was lights out in the playoff game. He shook Norm Reed out of his shoes on the TD play at the end of the game, it was an incredible play.
Mark Hajjar (The Master Writer)
Mark can flat out write! That boy good!
Kelsey Bashi (not Lately)
Broke his wrist and hasn’t been back since.
Danny Shaba (Hi 5)
Danny 5 is a solid player and also a survivor in his own right he survived the trade wind of Tony A. He was one of 3 players that weren’t trade out of 9. Danny can defend with the best of them and is a playmaker at the center position.
Scotty Acho (the forgotten one)
The Acho boy that gets the least air play, he is coming into his own and making enough noise to be noticed, he too might be playing in Iraq next year like his brother.
And now come the Reserves Pat Sesi and Pierre Bacall
Without their two reserves, Green wouldn’t be playing for all the marbles. These guys carried this team all regular season long. These two are going to be a great addition and might be regulars next season and for years to come.
Now comes White
Joey Jonna (Nate killer)
Nate has won the Chy Cup the last two years in a row and would have won it again this year, but the problem is Joey is healthy again. Enough about Nate, let’s talk about Joey. Joey is a leader, a champion, win or lose, week in and week out. He threads the needle and trusts his receivers to go get the ones he throws up for grabs. If you bring your kids out to the game, you want them to watch and be like Joe.
Jordan Rassam (The MUTHA Fin ShOw SToPpeR)
Hide your kids, hide your wife and yo husbands too. “They bleep’in everybody out here!!!!” They don’t call him show stopper for nothing. Expect to see a determined and demon like flash of white Saturday night and if you don’t… watch the tape in slow motion.
Timmy Acho (39 INTS in his career)
Don’t throw the ball near him or you lose the game. Timmy has closed out 10 or more games with an interception in the 3 short years he has been in the league. He is the tallest player on the field and a favorite target of JJ. So look for Timmy to have a game and a half.
Nick Hermiz (Remember me saying, Anthony Yaldo is the toughest pound for pound player in the CFL, well Nick is the toughest player period)
You don’t want to get near the sideline with him coming your way, it will end in disaster. Disaster in the sense that you will either get de-cleated or you lose a leg, both are bad. You won’t have much luck in the middle of the field either.
Lance Samona (the professor)
Lance is the smartest mime in the league. You can’t get him to say much but when he does you better listen. He reminds me of the pink panther, tall lanky and smooth. A defensive specialist, but hasn’t had much luck against Tony A in past years in the big games.
Ramzy Kizy (coach)
Ramzy is a 24 year veteran and still holding his own against bigger stronger faster younger guys in the league today. P90x and Art of Strength product will do his best this week against Green’s rush. “Ah I’ll kill those young boys shuk”
Mike Sesi (Moss’n folks)
Rookie? I don’t think so. 17 years old? I doubt it. ROY and MVP.
Marvin Yeldo (My flag pull’in guy)
He is a hawk and flag hawking madman. Marvin has been to the big dance and knows how to get in a play. Some people end up in a play because it comes to them, Marvin goes and gets it.
Nelson Bricko (Motor)
Non-stop motor on this guy, he will be there until the end and is a silent assassin. You look at the stats at the end of the game and his name is in the big 3rd down play line all day.
Chris Denha (Not a catfish)
I talked to Chris today and he wants to be called a dogfish from now on. Please make a note of it. Some scratched their heads when White traded for Chris and now everyone knows why. Two things you will notice about Chris Saturday night under the lights, one is, he will give Mike Zeer fits and the other, when he pulls a flag he can’t help but to whip it to the ground.
Branden Yono (right shoulder arms!)
You’re welcome.
Reserve Nick Sarafa (Son of a legend)
Great all around didn’t get his fair share of down, but those are the breaks in the CFL. We will see him as a full timer next season.
So now that you have an understanding of what these two teams are made of, you understand why they are the last two teams standing.
These two are well deserving of the privilege to play for the CFL Championship. They split the regular season match up. Green was a different team. Now both need to bring their best games and may the best TEAM win, the best team always wins.
We will see you all this Saturday night under the lights at West Bloomfield High at 8 pm sharp!
White -6 and over/under 30
The after party is at Sylvan Lanes on Orchard Lake Road, follow the champagne odor if you don’t know where it is.
Good luck to both teams
