| Well I did it! It took 7 first rounders on the roster to do it but it got done. All those years of coming a little bit short, a play here, a play there or just flat out sucking and finally the Cup is at the Toma house. You know what? I wouldn't change anything over the past 15 years, not one thing. Simply because I can't, I don't have a time machine.
My plan back in 1997 out of the goodness of my heart was to let Roy, Joey, Nate, Bob and Saber win a championship each and then dominate the league for the next 10 years. The greedy cork soakers decided to win back to back and some back to back twice. So the plan took a little longer to come together.
Now I'm not the guy that has never won it as a coach, but the only coach to have won it since 2011! The only, no one else has won it as a coach since 2011. Come on everyone say it together "Anthony Toma is the only coach to win the Chy Cup since 2011" okay one more time " Anthony Toma is the only coach to win the Chy Cup since 2011".
You are all invited to my Coach/GM of the year ceremony at the "Sign of the Beefcarver" at 11Mile and Woodward, 4:30 pm Tuesday (Early Bird special 20% off on prime rib).
Also, I would like to announce my retirement from coaching. It has been a great run. I wouldn't trade any of it for anything. Retirement from coaching doesn't mean I'm going to quit playing, so you will still be required to keep your head up before, during and after plays.
Lots of great memories to share and cherish in this little league called the CFL. How was I so lucky to have played 25 injury free seasons? How was I so lucky to have played with such great players? How was I so lucky to have enjoyed playing with teammates, family and friends on 25 different teams? 9570 different player combinations if you count all my trades.
Did you guys know that Nab Mekani played in the league? 57 of the 60 players are asking themselves "who the fuck is Nab Mekani"? Exactly! Nab is a very dear friend that most of you don't know but I played with him 23 years ago. I also loved playing with guys like Raad Kello, Martin and Qais Manna, Saad Kalabat and Jonathan Toma (until he punch Nader in the face and got banned forever).
In closing, I will say that I am most thankful to have never had to play on a team with Nate K.
But seriously...
The CFL is a family affair and I truly do love and appreciate it.
I'll write some more later. To thank the guys on Team Red. For now I just wanted to get something out there and off my championship, oh I mean my chest.
Love you all!
