| Mike you always get 2 bases on an overthrow at the point of the release from the throw. In this case the runner safe at second would get home. Had second base at the time of release. The batter/runner running to first base would get second base. They were not on first base at the time of release so they get first base and then second. Hope this helps Neal

| You're correct Neal, that is if the runner from first was already at second when the SS released the ball. If that same runner was still on her way to second at the release, she would only get second and third on the overthrow. Even if she was only a foot from second on the throw. No such things as "halfway." Either you touched the base at the release, or you didn't.

| greg, in this case the runner going to 2B would not get 3B on the overthrow. she's out. the initial play was at 2B and the only reason she was safe was she beat the throw from SS to 2B - the 2B player was on 2B caught the ball then threw to 1B

| or SS could have taken the play herself at 2B and not tossed to 2B player. description of play doesn't distinguish, simply says play for the out was late to get runner

| R1 on second at time of release, therefore R1 awarded home. B1 had not reached first at the time of throw. They are awarded second.

| A bit confusing. But if runner from first had not reached second at the time of the release, they would be awarded second and third on the overthrow.
