As many of you know, I was unintentionally struck with a thrown softball while running to first base. the result was many cheekbone fractures and about two weeks of work lost, not to mention hospital copays and followup appointments.
The fog hasn't quite lifted from the concussion, however the outlook is good.

I've purchased a helmet to wear for hitting and base running (because base running begins when your in the batters box) My Suggestion is: if you don't mind the helmet look and wish to avoid serious injury, helmets are cheap insurance.
This is indeed a rare occurance, But I'm still feeling the after affects. Also it could have been a lot worse.

Thank you for your time.

Dave, I hope you are doing okay. I think your suggestion is a very good one. I know some will give it a try. It is a change that may be required in future years. See ya down the road.

Thank you Bob,
The bones are healing slow but steady. The biggest concern I have, and also would have for anyone else, is the concussion symptoms.
Setting aside the lost quality work time, there have been issues such as getting lost in town, forgetting how to use a computer program after 15 years, calling people by wrong names, and like this past weekend, forgetting that I even played Saturday. Hopefully these symptoms will go away.
It is indeed good to be back playing.

I promised an update to the concussion situation. Almost 4 months to the day, the fog finally lifted and I feel pretty good. I just wish they still made those running ear guards like we had in little league. I think 4months isn't worth the pain and cloudiness. Last tourney in Turlock, another baserunner was hit. He also was in bad shape. Make your own decisions. But try to be safe. Thanks to everyone who wished me well. I may not remember but it's appreciated. "To the game" (as the wise ones say)
