R1 on 3rd and breaks for home on a passed ball. Catcher retrieves ball and tags runner before R1 reaches home plate but drops ball after about a second. Is this an out or is the runner safe?

Judgment call, but I would rule safe because she didn't have the ball securely when tag was made.
Did slide cause ball to become not secure thus forcing catcher to drop ball?
