| HERE WE ARE.
The final showdown, for the first time in a few years will not include Nate & Co. But even without that electric QB, this one is set to be a real thriller. Blue (-1) vs Green
I will start with Team Green.
GREEN Lance Samona: A true leader and the epitome of a gentleman on the football field. Lance has been a mastermind on defense, using his chess pieces to outwit opposing offenses. Lance has played on the big stage, but this time he leads his troops onto this final battleground. I am happy to see a young captain get to this point. It is what the league needs.
Andrew Shango: Everyone called him superman the second we saw him play. He made the switch from the second best WR in the league to an excellent QB that has mastered throwing on the run and making plays when defenders are chasing him. He will be facing a staunch defense in Blue, but he has always been and will always be a big playmaker.
Mazen Jaddou: One of my favorite players to play against. Something about Mazen irritates opposing teams down to their core. It could be his relentless shit talking, or his consistent playmaking. Maz had more interceptions than I had TDs this year, so Justin better watch out for him. He is hard to miss in his size medium cut off.
Brandon Nafso: Shifty as they come, B Nafso has gained a reputation for laying down some dirty jukes if he can catch the ball when it comes his way. He has transitioned into a great cover corner and will definitely keep the defense on “screen alert.” Look out for a B Nafso punt return to the house.
Preston Rabban: Yet another great young player who lets the other team know he has the confidence and skills necessary to impact games. Catching balls in the flats or deep downfield, his versatility has been crucial to Green’s championship run.
George Abro: George fuckin’ Abro. I can rant about this kid if we had the time, but we don't. Let me just say that George is a top rusher and DOES NOT STOP at any point between whistles. His hustle is something I have never seen. Sacks devastate drives and if he can get a few, then Blue might be in serious trouble.
G-Lo Nannoshi: Man oh man, G Lo has stepped up big for Green. A jack-of-all-trades with speed and willingness to be physical, Angelo can help Green’s defense chase down some of the speed they will be facing.
Mark Hajjar: The epitome of a CFL man, Mark Hajjar’s job of protecting superman is no easy task. He has been an anchor for that offensive line and if he can give Shango a few seconds, Blue’s job will be a lot tougher. Mark deserves to have his name on that cup and he knows it. He will come ready to play, so all rushers beware.
Rami Jabro: Dr. Rami is another hustler who makes blocking Green’s rush a seriously difficult task. He is another young player who makes me confident that the CFL has a bright future. If anyone gets hurt (hopefully not), he will definitely be first on the scene…as long as you have insurance or are willing to pay cash…ain’t shit for free…YET.
ERNEST YALDO!!!: Ernie has been playing in the CFL since before TVs had color and well before women could vote. Back when he started, there were serious movements to ban alcohol…lol how dumb was that. We’re out here tryna legalize pot. I’m down with the cause…anyway. This is his best shot at a title and it will be hard for any fan to not root for Big Worm. From tip toe catches to perfect snaps, Ernie has been the pinnacle of stability for Team Green and I wouldn't be surprised if he snags a ball with one hand and toe taps his way into the end zone on Sunday night.
BLUE Justin Orow: Captain JO, one of my favorite QBs that I have had the honor of playing for. Justin makes plays with his legs and his arm, which makes him tough to stop. Only Black could shit on him twice this year, partially because I am unstoppable. Justin leads a squad of young speed on the outside with an old, wise offensive line on the inside. Justin is a winner…it’s what he does. If he can avoid INTs, which have been a problem as of late, good luck Green.
Dylan Kallabat: Dylan K has made his presence known, especially on the defensive side. He bats down balls, gets picks, and catches deep TDs when it counts. Dylan will be a problem with Justin scrambling and buying time.
Derek Putrus: He’s playing! A late shove or two, no problem! His blocking is crucial for Blue’s success. He has mastered the catch and pitch with his bald and stocky QB, and I am sure we will see some of that in this championship game.
Andrew Marouki: More and more young talent, the CFL lives on. Marouki has speed and ball skills. His work at CB has been huge for Blue, who often confidently leaves him on an island. He does his job and does not say much, but when you bat down throws and pick off jump balls, you really don't need to say much. Keep up the good work Drew.
Fadi Gulli: Ever since he was released from prison, Fadi has been playing with a major chip on his shoulder. He is part of the blocking team that gives Justin time to make all those plays we have seen him make. Fadi is good for a pancake or two, plus some serious personal threats. He is also the solidified back up QB on this team. Fun fact: he can throw 60 yards.
Biggz Naimi: Biggz fuckin Big Play Naimi was MVP of the playoff battle with Red, just as predicted. He is all over the place on D, and always seems to make huge catches on 3rd downs for Blue. He WILL make his stamp on this game, and I will be on the sideline clapping loudly. He played street football on Finnegan Drive, home of many legends, so it is no surprise that he drips with football instinct. Laith Sawa: Laith took a page out of George Abro’s book this season, rushing with a relentlessness unparalleled on his team. Laith will have his work cut out for him against Superman, but if he can get a sack and crush a drive, you know his freakishly athletic nephews (spawn of Joey Jonna) will be right there to shouting “Go uncle Laith!”
Frank The Tank: Took a week off for his honeymoon but the man is back and ready to rumble. He plays multiple positions and does so with a real motor. Leaking off the O line here and there and getting more YACs on one play than I have in my career, Frank has become an integral part of Blue’s attack. He will also be seen rushing against much larger men, but never quitting. Frank is becoming one of my favorite players.
Did I forget someone…oh yeah…
Anthony Yaldo: Arguably the most controversial player this season. AY was the first pick of the draft but was traded to Blue for his lack of loyalty and attempted sabotage of Tarik’s season. Despite how much it hurts to type this…he makes plays. He is all over the field on defense, able to play corner, safety, LB, and rusher at a very high level. If Justin throws him the ball on offense, you will see how foolish grown men can look chasing him. He is one of the best players the league has seen, yet here he stands on the cusp of earning his first CFL title. I remember that feeling, my rookie year…
Boys, I have a feeling this one will go down as one of the best games we have seen under the lights. Nate, bring the popcorn. Shuck, bring the Crown Royal. AT, bring some champagne…not for the winners but for us peasants watching from the sidelines.
