I think we need to have a schedule soon for the season and if we need to move them to other parks so be it

So phase one of the project includes the building addition to the community hall, and also the addition of the splash pad, play structure & picnic pavilion. They are going to begin construction on the splashpad, play structure & pavilion in the next few weeks and hope to have it done before the end of June. The rest of the changes (proposed building, proposed walking track, proposed sport courts) do not have any firm construction dates and would be subject to budget funding approval.

By the sounds of that and with likely delays what are we doing to source other parks and a schedule? Will the park be accessible and useable during construction at all?

While doing my spring planting I started to hear voices, almost whispers....only now I know what I must do......I'm going to build a ball park, hopefully you guys come out as the local townsfolk think I'm crazy and it's really taking a toll on my family and wife.

Use the driveway though, stop walking through the corn, your ruining my crops

To try and gain clarity of the situation, I have been emailing our ward representative on the happenings at the ball diamond. Below you will find my question and then their response in the following paragraph

Just wondering if there has been any changes to the original plan stated below. (The plan was the one in the above post- fyi, I was Brenda Johnson). The baseball league who has been playing there for quite some time (Glanbrook Slo Pitch League) has been asking me if they are going to be able to play there this summer.
If we are not able to play there do you have any contacts of whom I can contact to see if they're other diamonds we can play on.
Let me know any information that might be able to appease the collective from the league.

Yes, they were able to get more funding and have decided to go forward with the entire project this summer. They have begun construction on the splash pad, and playground and plan to have that portion of the project completed by June 29th, weather permitting. The second phase, which includes a shade structure, multi-use court, tennis court, exercise stations, asphalt walkway, seating & planting is aimed to be completed by August 17th, weather permitting.
There are diamonds in Binbrook that may be available. I’ve included staff on this email and ask that they help assisting you with finding an alternative.

If I hear anything I will let you know but that's all I got for now. This year seems tentative at best but the larger concern will be if the league will be able to even get our diamond back after completion. My guess is that we will be bumped and told to find a new place to play as prime-time ball diamond hours will not be given to a mens league. Most of us saw this happen with our hockey league as well.

If you wish to email the person directly to voice displeasure or further questions the email contact I have is

Demik, Kristen [Kristen.Demik@hamilton.ca]

She is the office assistant to Brenda Johnson the Ward 11 city Councillor

So there is transparency amongst the league. This was my response. I will forward any reply that I receive.

Kristen,

I appreciate your response. I understand the need for continuous improvement and it's encouraging to see that there is financial to expand and improve this park in many different regards. I'm sure this is influenced by the projected projects in the surrounding area and hopefully will be enjoyed by all who will live in the vicinity.

With that being said, I know there are some individuals who feel slighted that there was a lack of communication to the league who has been playing there and for the most part have been maintaining the diamond for years. Our league has played in Glanbrook for over 30 years and comprises of people who have lived in this area their entire lives, volunteer within Glanbrook and take pride that our ball league is not just a ball league but a community in itself.

The concern is that this will be taken away from us or that we will be pushed aside as we are a men's ball league. Now this point may seem unjustified but a brief history is that many players in this league were also part of the Glanbrook men's hockey league. It was in this case that the league was told we no longer have our ice time at the Glanbrook rink on Sunday mornings as we did for 30 years because it was being given to other leagues. The Glanbrook league was then told to find another place to play. That being said, that left a bad taste in many people's mouths and still aggravates any who experienced it. In this scenario many are fearing this will occur again but now with our diamond.

Has any consideration been given to honor our Glanbrook league, playing times or our final weekend on this diamond? Who is the main person of contact so this can be discussed thoroughly and any other information can be communicated effectively? Clarity is the main principle as of now.

Thank you,

Burnsy

City of Hamilton !!

Are trying to tell me that we can't play ball on a diamond that is sitting vacant right now !!

Your not even doing any work to it , you maybe doing work around the diamond but no work is being done on the diamond !!

We could have had at least 20 games in our books by now. Over the last two weeks. Two games a night , 5 nights a week.

And you are definitely not working around there after 6 pm.

Ps. Thanx for keeping our league up to date this spring.
Also. Thanx for not giving a straight answer to us of when and where we will be playing

Just pathetic !!!!

All,

I just received this response to my email posted above that was sent over a week ago

Hi Dan,

So sorry for the delay, I’m inquiring with our sports policy & allocation manager will advise as soon as I have further information.

As for those that are wondering what is happening to the league, the following email was circulated to the Hawks this morning

Essentially the city the has fucked us out of a diamond and we currently have no where to play. Once they decide to pull their heads out of their ass and let us play somewhere I’ll let you guys know.

So until further notice the season is suspended.

This is everything I know as of yet.

I heartily advise others to email Brenda Johnson who is our Ward representative. I have sent her an email yesterday without any response.

I feel one voice can be ignored and easily pushed to the side but as a collective we have the ability to be heard.

If we don't make any noise there is not a doubt that we will lose this park as we went silently into the night when it was taken from us

If anyone decides they want to go straight to the top her email is

brenda.johnson@hamilton.ca

Thank you,

Dan
