1st Round Results- Favorites Prevail!!

RED- 41 vs. YELLOW- 7

Red dominated this game from the first play of the game. And speaking of the first play of the game… “Playoff” Ray Dawood orchestrated one of the best, if not the best trick play in the history of the CFL. The “Wrong Ball” trick was nothing more than a YouTube legend until Red QB Tarik put on an Academy Award winning performance tricking Yellow into believing that they were playing with the wrong ball while walking over to the sidelines looking for the correct ball. Tarik then shot up the sideline for a TD leaving the Yellow team shocked and demoralized. It was a team effort indeed with everyone on the Red team involved in the trickery. The rest of the game was more of the same as Red piled up a record 34 points in the first half. Tarik was dialed in to say the least and Red scored every way possible. Red’s D was also on point led by a crazy rush that frustrated Karrumi all day. Yellow looked lethargic and uninspired despite all the playoff hype. Whenever Yellow got any kind of momentum, Red squashed it with a big play. The better team won the game. AT returns to the championship game for the first time this century.

GREEN- 32 vs. BLACK- 28

The Green Machine was in effect scoring early in typical fashion. But Black stormed back and answered with a TD of their own. Then Black took the lead on a rare bad throw from Russ that Derek D pick sixed. But as usual, Green answered and managed to take a 20-14 lead into halftime. Black had a couple of opportunities early in the second half but Green’s D came up with a couple of huge picks putting Green back in the driver’s seat. But Black would not die. Black scored to cut Green’s lead to one score in the 4th quarter. Black’s D then had Green in a 3rd and long with a chance to get the ball back. But the league’s most productive tandem of Russ and Tony hooked up on a crossing route that was just out of reach of a pursuing Stefan Kalabat. Green scored two plays later to essentially ice the game. But Black answered with a quick score to again bring them within one score. Green got the ball back with under two minutes with the intention of killing as much clock as possible before giving the ball back up. Black used both of their timeouts and appeared to be getting the ball back with decent field position. But on 4th down, Green took a safety which forced Black to go the length of the field in 15 seconds. Black needed one more miracle and almost got it when a hail mary was misplayed by the Green D leading to the ball being tipped and reeled in by Derek D. But the play was ruled out of bounds and Blacks season was over. Black’s gutsy performance was impressive and entertaining. They gave a heavily favored Green a true test and were close to an upset. But close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades and Green moves on to the Championship game. The story of this game was missed opportunities for Black. And for Green… well they just go out every week and make plays. Bob, whose previous Green Machine is widely regarded to have had the 2nd best run in recent history, returns to the big stage after a 3 year hiatus.
