Our brother Joey Jonna lost his mother-in-law today due to an aneurism she suffered last week.

Some of the rookies may know not know Joey that well, and maybe never heard of Mona. She was a wonderful woman with a big heart and a great spirit.

We were forwarded the message below and we are compelled to share it on behalf of his family.

The wake is today at AJ Desmond Funeral Home Royal Oak from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Funeral is Saturday 8/3 Mother of God Church at 12:00 PM.

Please consider attending and paying condolences should you feel inclined.

If you are unable to attend, prayers are always welcome.

God Bless you all.

Mona Binno Sawa

November 13, 1952 to August 2, 2013

Thank you everyone for the support, it is truly appreciated.

Mona Binno Sawa realized at an early age, that life was fragile. By the time that she was born, she was thrust into a family in mourning. Her father, Binno, and her brother Zuhair had just drowned. Her mother Shamamta, was left alone, with no income and in charge of raising six kids, one of which was her baby girl Mona. Mona grew up and later endured many more obstacles in her life. She lost her beautiful sister Souad to cancer, her wonderful brother Saad in a robbery and most recently her mother Shamamta.

Despite the obstacles in life, Mona never let any of the sadness and sorrow bring her down. Instead, she was always bright, cheerful and had a smile on her face. Anyone that knew her would tell you that she had a laugh that was so infectious that it would immediately put a smile on your face. Mona just wanted people to be happy. She enjoyed greeting people and helping comfort families at Henry Ford Hospital, where she worked. She loved getting together with friends. She really adored the Red Wings, through good times and bad. But her main motivation in life, her driving force, was getting her whole family together and making sure they were all happy.

Obviously Mona loved her husband Yousif, children Tammy (and Joey), Leith, and Anthony, and grandchildren Tyler, Ethan, and Derek. But she would go crazy for her nieces, nephews and cousins. Mona seemed to take on the roll of a second Mom to all of us, and anyone that needed her. Mona had a hand in raising all of us, and her house was Grand Central Station for our family and friends. You went to Mona's house not just for fun and family functions, but for that extra love or comfort that you were missing in your daily life. And of course, her great cooking made the perfect recipe of tender loving care. She never got sick of us, no matter how much we were at her house. Mona would say "Where are you going, it's still early?", or "C'mon, spend the night". The fondest memories for our family were at Mona's. We needed her as much as she needed us, and there is no way to describe that perfect feeling of love. When you were at Mona's, the whole world was great! There are so many stories and memorable moments that it would take a book to recite them all. Those great, funny, happy memories and stories are also the gift that we have from Mona that will last for the rest of our lives.

When you think of Mona, as hard as it might be, please don't be sad or cry. Instead, think about how wonderful she was, and how she made you feel. Take all those good feelings and share them with the people in your life. Tell your kids and spouse how much you love them everyday. Tell the people who mean something to you that they are important. Don't take anything for granted. That is how you can keep Mona's beautiful memory alive.

I love you Mona, God Bless You Always.
