Jim Pasquine Hits 2-Run Bomb In 8th To Sweep Doubleheader

Quinn Construction jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning. Tony Kostelnik singled and then came home on Nick Yobbi's double. Hot Shots Saloon quickly took the lead back in the bottom of the first. West Mifflin sophomore, Ryan Bytzura, gave up a single to Anthony Monaco and then Logan Corrigan took Bytzura deep to center for a 2-run HR. The Mudcats took back the lead in the second inning. Hot Shots starter, Adam Dodson, walked Zack Miller and Luke Hils to start the inning. Kevin Quinn laid down a sac bunt but reached base on an error. With the bases loaded, Kostelnik drew a walk to score Miller, and Yobbi hit a sac fly to score Hils. Jim Pasquine stepped to the plate with runners on first and second and hit a line drive missile that almost knocked over the left field fence. Quinn scored on the Pasquine double making it 4-2, Mudcats. Hot Shots got one back in the bottom of the third when Corrigan walked and scored on Jake Bywalski's double. Dom Francia took over on the mound for Bytzura and breezed through the 5th and 6th innings but ran into some trouble in the 7th. With the score 4-3 Mudcats, Francia hit Monaco with a pitch and he advanced to third on Carter Grote's single. Grote advanced to second on the throw. The Mudcats decided to intentionally walk Corrigan to load the bases with one out. Francia struck out Ryan Dodson for the second out. Ben Nolan hit a single that was destined for the outfield, but shortstop Zack Miller dove and knocked the ball down keeping the winning run from scoring. On the play, Monaco scored to tie the game 4-4. Francia struck out Brady Benedetti with the bases loaded to send the game into extra innings. In the top of the 8th, Kostelnik drew his 4th walk of the game to lead off the inning. In what most would consider a bunting situation, Mudcats manager Tom Simcho told Nick Yobbi to swing away. Yobbi flew out to left field, but Jim Pasquine was next. Pasquine delivered the crushing blow with a 2-run blast into the night sky. The Mudcats added two more runs on a Zack Miller single and a throwing error to put the game out of reach. Francia set the Hot Shots batters down in order in the bottom of the 8th to earn the win.
