Slugs Stun Top Seeded Splunkers in Bracket A Opener
The Ladder Quest conquerors, Banana Slugs, rode their momentum into the first round of Bracket A with a 5-1 victory over the number one seeded Splunkers. Jake Davey got the scoring started in the top of the second with a solo home run, but Austin Abel said not so fast and tied things up in the bottom half with a solo shot of his own. After a scoreless third, Davey and Nate Morris went back-to-back for a three spot in the top of the fourth inning, which made the score 4-1 Slugs. Morris kept the Splunkers bats quiet the rest of the way, as he allowed just one hit after surrendering the second inning home run to Abel. Davey added a homer in the fifth, his third of the game, to make the final score 5-1. Austin Abel got tabbed with the loss on the rubber for the Splunkers, as he went four-plus innings, and allowed all five runs on five hits, walked one and struck one out.
