Lipinsky Impressive As Litchfield Beats Shepaug
Both teams were strong on the hill on Wednesday but the Cowboys defeated the Spartans 2-1. Travis Lipinsky threw a complete game 3-hitter, besting Kersten from Shepaug.
Lipinsky struck out 10 batters on the day. He only gave up three hits and one run over seven innings while walking 3.
The Cowboys were the first to get on the board in the first when Kersten induced Nick Dest into a fielder's choice, scoring one run.
Miles Wilson singled, which helped Shepaug tie the game at one in the top of the sixth.
The Cowboys took the lead in the bottom of the sixth. A squeeze bunt by Will Shafer scored Nick Dest from third.
Kersten stepped on the bump first for Shepaug. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and two runs (one earned) over six, striking out three and walking two.
Dest went 2-for-3 at the plate as the third baseman led the team with one RBI. Granata, Wilson, and Smith each collected one hit for the Spartans. Wilson went 1-for-2 with an RBI. Shepaug also turned a double play on a baserunning blunder by the Cowboys.
