Cowboys Fall to Chiefs Despite Onslaught of Bats
Even though Litchfield collected 13 hits to Nonnewaug's eight, they still fell 13-6 on Monday. Travis Lipinsky, Elian Vega, Gus Worden, Will Shafer, and Jack Gollow each collected two hits for the Cowboys.
Nonnewaug got on the board in the first inning after Lucas Savarese doubled, scoring one run. They added a run in the second when Dylan Bambino grounded out. They added to their lead in the third after Mason Pieger singled, Brayden Whipple walked, and Bambino singled, each scoring one run.
The Cowboys scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the fifth. Gollow singled scoring one run, Shafer singled, scoring two runs, and Worden singled scoring two runs.
The Chiefs scored six runs on two hits in the top of the event. An error scored one run, RJ Barksdale drew a walk, scoring one run, Chase Reynolds induced Savarese into a fielder's choice but one run scored, Pieger singled scoring two runs, and Henry Keil grounded out, scoring one run.
Lipinsky led things off on the hill for Litchfield allowing six hits and seven runs (three earned) over five innings striking out five and walking three. Tyler DiElsi stepped on the hill first for the Chiefs surrendering 12 hits and six runs (five earned) over five and a third innings, striking out four and walking one.
Worden and Shafer each drove in two runs for the Cowboys. Litchfield also turned one double play in the game.
Pieger drove the middle of the lineup, leading the Chiefs with three runs batted in. The catcher went 3-5 on the day. TJ Angiolini collected two hits for the Chiefs in five at bats. Whipple stole two bases. Nonnewaug stole five bases in the game.
