Litchfield snatched the lead late in their 3-2 victory over the Mountaineers on Tuesday. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the fifth when Travis Lipinsky doubled, scoring one run.
Both teams were strong on the bump. The Cowboys pitchers struck out three while Houatonic sat down three.
The Mountaineers got on the board in the top of the second inning after Riemer singled and Dean grounded out, each scoring one run.
Litchfield took the lead in the bottom of the fifth thanks to doubles by Jack Gollow and Lipinsky.
Chuck Pickert led things off on the hill for the Cowboys. He allowed three hits and two runs over six innings striking out three and walking two. Bayer began the game for the Mountaineers and allowed seven hits and three runs (two earned) over six innings, striking out three and walking two. Lipinsky tossed one innings of no-run ball for the Cowboys in relief giving up one hit and walking one.
Gollow led Litchfield with two RBIs. He went 1-3. Joe Sepples led the Cowboys with two hits in three at-bats. Litchfield turned one double play in the game.
Riemer led Housatonic with two hits in three at-bats.
The Cowboys will travel to Northwestern for their game on Thursday. Go Cowboys!
