Rays comeback late to beat Orioles

The Rays got on the board first, scoring a run in the top of the first on Gary Blaylock's RBI double, but left the bases loaded in an attempt to get more. Both would become a theme as Blaylock had a monster game and the Rays left the bases loaded in 5 different innings. The Orioles tied the game in the bottom of the 2nd. Corey Miller led off the inning with a single and Jay Metzbower followed with a double. Miller was dead to rights at home, but the relay throw from shortstop sailed over the catcher's head to make the score 1-1. After a hit batter and walk put two runners on with 2 outs for the Orioles in the 3rd, Miller crushed a triple down the left field line to score 2 and then would come home to score on Metzbower's single for a 4-1 lead. The Rays immediately got 2 runs back in the top of the 4th when Eric Yoho led off the inning with a double and Blaylock crushed a 2-run homer to straight away center. They loaded the bases, threatening for more, but couldn't come up with the clutch hit, leaving the bases loaded for the 3rd time in 4 innings. The score remained 4-3 until the top of the 6th. Phil Polakoff tied the game with an RBI single and Paul Hoke followed that with an RBI groundout to give the Rays the lead. They loaded the bases again that inning and scored another run on Roga Rangel's ground out, before leaving the bases loaded for the 5th time! The Rays added 3 insurance runs in the 7th on RBIs by Eric Yoho, Polakoff and Hoke, and loaded the bases yet again but an 8-1-2 double play got the Orioles out of the inning. The Orioles scored 1 in the 7th on Metzbower's RBI single to make the final 9-5.

Gary Blaylock filled the stat sheet, going 3 for 3 with a walk, double, homer, 3 runs and 3 RBIs. Eric Yoho also had 3 hits with 2 runs and an RBI. Five other Rays had 2 hits in their 19-hit attack (Tyler Hensley, Adrian Ferrer, Ron Lehman, Phil Polakoff and Roga Rangel). For the Orioles, Corey Miller (2 for 4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) and Jay Metzbower (3 for 4, 2 RBIs) collected 5 of the team's 6 hits.
